cartridge, speakers, recording, amp? conjested
Tom, I have to agree that it does sound like compression. But with 200 w/ch that doesn't seem like it would be the amp.Could it perhaps be that you're overplaying the room?
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage?
Jose, or anyone else, have you correlated RIAA error to colorations? As in, error of x amount or of y type leads to a z coloration. Is that a clear question? :)
Where did tracking error go?
The phenomenon still exists, if that's what your asking. Depending of what level of playback you want to address it is more or less of an issue. Many of the mid to high end arms and cartridges these days provide for very good control and adjustmen...
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage?
Thanks to you designers for posting your thoughts. Good one, Thom!In my mind the next logical question would concern the RIAA curve itself. I'm sure we'd all agree that following the curve as close as possible is a good thing, but just how close d...

Subsonic filter wish and a solution
Dave, I posted in haste. I didn't mean to imply that your amps were crap. I probably should have said "if one's amps are worth a crap". Anyway. Yes, I can hear LF signals and that's my point. I don't use subs in my 2 channel system but both speake...
Subsonic filter wish and a solution
Dave, you're the first person I've heard say they wouldn't be without a subsonic filter. If your amps are worth a crap you will not have any problems. Why apply that filter to records that don't exhibit LF issues? If it's happening with all of you...

Put a cover over your woofers and stop worrying.
The Quietest LP Cleaning Machines
WHAT?!?!? I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I'M CLEANING RECORDS ON MY DIY RCM. WORKS GREAT, LOTS OF VACUUM. I JUST HAVE TO WAIT 20 MINUTES TO PLAY AN LP UNTIL I CAN HEAR AGAIN.Someday I'll own a Loricraft.
Anti-Skating or just let it skate? Your opinion.
I think the proof is in the playback. I've come to learn that the less AS, the better. And, what I find to work for me is much less than what the tonearm manufacturer supplies for a AS weight. Too much AS is just as detrimental as too much VTF. It...
Rega upgrades/tweeks
Nice thing about the Techno Weight is the micrometer adjuster. This and a re-wire, Brit-Audio is another source, will greatly enhance the RB-300.
warped records damaging?
I wouldn't worry about playing a warped record on occasion. I've got one or two that deflect about 1/4". If your arm and cartridge track it without flying out of the grooves, I wouldn't sweat it.One thing I would watch for is extreme woofer pumpin...
Record Cleaning Machine Fluid
Birdyy8, using a different brush for each step is a very good idea. Other than a paint pad for spreading my enzyme cleaner I've gotten to where I use those cheap VPI brushes almost exclusively. Those white ones with the felt that come in packs of ...
Record Cleaners / RCMs
I do hope people are vacuuming your LP's after hand cleaning. It is the only way to be sure that all of the crude gets remove immediately after the cleaners loosen it up. I built my own RCM so I have a combination of hand washing with vacuum and t...
