How old is your cartridge?
I want to remind to all of you guys that Nagaoka (adored by many for some unknown reasons here) has a very stiff suspension and it’s a new cartridge, dynamic compliance of this Moving Permalloy cartridge is about 7cu @ 100Hz, remember that Denon D...
How old is your cartridge?
Audiophiles normally have many cartridges, an old cartridge can be almost unused if a person have 15 more cartridges in rotation (for example). Cartridge can be stored for decades properly, it depends who is the owner. I have personal experience w...
MC cartridge High output vs Low output
The fundamental concept behind them all is lower mass improves precision tracking. The magnets in a MM design are a lot more massive than high output MC MM cartridges are not the same, there are many amazing MM with extremely low effective mass...
Inexpensive MM Cartridge
Chakster, he bought the Nagaoka. be happy for him instead of your usual BS about cartridge choices of what is good and what is not. We’re talking about technical things here than you @mr_m do not understand, probably. I’m sorry for you. You can s...
Inexpensive MM Cartridge
Audio-Technica with MicroLine stylus is definitely better than any Nagaoka with Elliptical tip. Also AT is fairly mid compliance, Nagaoka compliance is too low for MM and this is strange. However, you can use heavier headshell is your tonearm coun...
Inexpensive MM Cartridge
I don't think you need a $300 cartridge for one of the cheapest old Pioneer belt drive turntable. For $300 you could actually buy a whole new direct drive turntable with better tonearm. If you need just a cartridge for that old Pioneer look for Au...
How to choose the right protractor for my effective tonearm length
Get Feickert, it was designed for ALL tonearms and all turntables and you can measure PS distance and choose one of 3 given alignment methods. So ONE protractor for all your turntables and tonearms/cartridges. You currently have 2 different and st...
Logical cartridge upgrade for a long time Shure M44-7 user
Shiit Mani is what I recommended to my 24 y.o. nephew for his first analog setup, but I can't recommend this cheap unit for serious listening to anyone of audiogon, it's just basics even in it was made in the USA, same about Rega and related cheap...

Don’t know what you expected from Schiit. My recommendation is Australian made JLTi mk4 or mk5 with special mod from the manufacturer to expand optional MM loading up to 100k Ohm (he can do that by request). This phono stage is great for MC too. O...
5 cartridges - Cello, vdH, Benz, Zu, Hana - what stays and what goes?
For Cello and Denon 103 from Zu Audio you need the heaviest possible mass tonearm, those carts are low compliance.
Ortofon 2m upgrade....
I have owned a blue for a few months and thinking of getting something better. Need output > .3mv Do you mean 3mV ? Then ONLY Moving Magnet or Moving Iron I was thinking about the Hana line as an option but have no personal experience with ...
Teach me about cartridge 'retipping'
it would seem to me that if a retipper/rebuilder has a good idea of the exact specs of the old cartridge cantilever and tip and suspension, to the extent materials are available, he can basically try to mimic the original spec, correct?Do you thin...
Teach me about cartridge 'retipping'
I read this comment all the time on forums but not one customer has ever said, “Great work! But it sounds different than it did before and I wish I bought a new one instead.” That has happened exactly zero times. Quite the opposite. People are ver...

Recommendations for a modestly priced analog system
There are better turntables from the golden age than new Technics. Those better turntables often even cheaper and you can use any tonearm on them including "12 inch tonearms (nothing can beat the PD-444 at $3-4k).
