Great Experience with Feickert Protractor ... the Feickert protractor is very good specifically with P2S distances, not so good with cart alignment, the Smartractor although more expensive allows you to adjust long tonearms and the cartridge with better precision I have aligned "12 inc...
Life After Technics SL1200 Mk5 If you want to compare digital and analog then you need to compare true analog (not a reissues) and in this comparison you will not be able to find a digital equivalent, because the master was analog. The best analog recordings are from the 70's a...
SUT into MM input section of Solid State Phono Stage If we will look on any classic SUTs we will see impedance range stated in the manual or market near the cartridge input on the SUT. In reality a low impedance MC are very low output. When a SUT says primary 3 Ohms connection it means this SUT desi...
Cartridge forgiving of "non-audiophile" recordings and pressings I have found that my AT ART 9 does what the OP is looking for. I have tried a few throughout the years and this cart is probably my last. Cheers, Doug Not surprised, the stylus tip on ART-9 is Special Line Contact Stylus.
Cartridge forgiving of "non-audiophile" recordings and pressings With a Conical tip on vintage vinyl you’re continuing to wear off same part of the groove walls that already worn out by previous user of your vintage records (an average listener with average equipment aka a conical bonded stylus on those cheap c...
SUT into MM input section of Solid State Phono Stage What is your MC cartridge then? Start from the cartridge, not from the SUT. If you already have SUT then you are limited to certain type of LOMC according to cartridge impedance matched to your SUT. You can't use one SUT for all LOMC cartridges.
Cartridge forgiving of "non-audiophile" recordings and pressings I’m a record collector first, and I have stacks of vinyl of many genres that would never qualify as audiophile quality, either in terms of recording, pressing, or both. Note that this isn’t a problem of vinyl condition. We’re talking VG+ at worst....
Ar ethe current LP's available for $25 or so as goos as the old ones. You can compare reissue vs. original in your system. If we’re not talking about some very rare and expensive LPs then it’s very easy to buy an original and reissue will cost you probably more (especially "audiophile" pressing). Then you can check b...
Denon DA 307 and DA 309 @ihcho When DA-401 was released it wasn't a problem to buy additional headshell for this model. I have 3 original headshells for this tonearm to swap cartridges. The shell is super lightweight and this is why it's not a regular headshell. Now sear...
Logical cartridge upgrade for a long time Shure M44-7 user @Nickpish yes, the ML is MicroLine, try it, AT is reasobably priced MM.
Logical cartridge upgrade for a long time Shure M44-7 user Nick, look for Audio-Technica with MicroLine stylus if you want something new, relatively cheap and good sounding (not dark sounding like those cheap Conical m44-7). Stylus tip responsible for frequency response. Better carts than new AT are those...
Mono vinyl, how do you know if really single channel mono or if stereo recorded to mono @herman Grace F14 LC-OFC MONO is one of the best mono MM I have ever heard, many original styli from Grace or new from SoundSmith
Mono vinyl, how do you know if really single channel mono or if stereo recorded to mono If you’re using MM mono cartridge then a cartridge generator must be true mono, but you can add stereo stylus with advanced profile (or any profile you need for different mono records)! Check this thread. If your records are new mono reissues then ...
Newbie Issues: Grace F9 with Micro Seiki DD-40 How about in the $500 range? Just has to be MM. Stanton 881s mkII or 981 ... and Pickering XSV/3000 or XSV/4000 is the best you can buy withing $350-750. All modern cartridge at this price are joke compared to those killer MM, most of the modern ...
Mono vinyl, how do you know if really single channel mono or if stereo recorded to mono Actually it’s often a mono master that simulates stereo when pressed in stereo. Remember those simulated stereo when drums are in one channel and vocals are in another channel? This is how they make stereo out of mono master. This is not a true st... |
