Good value upgrade from PSB STRATUS GOLDS to ?
Big Spendor SP 1/2's. There was a review at www.ecoustics.com and reviewer thought they were great in big room.
Musical Fidelity A3 CR Vs A3.2 Integrated
In my bright room with semi-bright speakers the A3 work for me. The A3.2 is more extended in the highs- I consider bright and fatiguing. Depends on if your speakers AND room are bright or laid back.Besides seperates give more power, more versatili...
atc 150 asl pro
Passive speakers start out with a huge disadvantage since amps are not optimized for the driver, crossover absorbs power and fine detail. And any ATC speaker is good on it's own merits, just that active takes it to another level. How do you get a $2...
Do I really need a second 2Wq sub?
I was told 1 sub for each 10,000 cubic feet. With an 8 foot ceiling you'd be close to 20,00o cubic feet. So yes.
Musical Fidelity A308 vs, A3.2 int amps
Haven't heard both side by side but I wonder if it's more a choice of type of sound vs. quality of sound. A3.2 separates leaner and quicker. A308 more bass, more rolled off highs.
Musical Fidelity X series amp and CD player
The X-150 combo had WAY too much bass with Dynaudio Audience 42. ST at Stereophile said the x-150 than A3.2cr separates had "more body".The Spendor 3/5 (Stereophiles latest reviewed speaker) sounded realy good with Naim Nat 5i. Naim is known to be...
Do power conditioners help with unwanted hum/noise
Thanks Sean, the iso transformer would be an easier upgrade. I used it on the CDP for the biggest improvement but always wondered how it compared to choke regulated p-s.
B&W Nuatilus
I had a longer post which seems to have disappeared. So my last post was too brief. To explain, I listened to Opera $10,000 speakers with a diamond tweeter, tubed amp. This was a fantastic speaker for a studio monitor. Extremely analytical and mad...
B&W Nuatilus
Diamond tweeter? More etched and hyped up than JM Labs BE tweeter. Whatever happened to neutral tonal balance vs. nervous hyped up speaker?
Do power conditioners help with unwanted hum/noise
Sean, which is better, isolation transformer or choke regulated power supply like Musical Fidelity? Thanks,
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Rex, maybe so, but try and find me a review of a component which is made for rock music. Here are some of Sam Tellig's comments:Harbeth - not for rock.Electocompaniet / Musical Fidelity / LFD Mistral - "harmonics, lit from within, etc etc."B&W...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Hi Rex, I'm happy you have found the system of your dreams. Nope the problem is not coloration. As I said before, I really think the problem is that systems are voiced for people who have a lot of money to spend and most of those people aren't lis...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Larryb "The most popular types of music - pop, rock and rap is reproduced better on non-audiophile systems."Huh?Maybe it's that people who like this type of music aren't the type who are willing to spend a lot of money on a stereo. People making s...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
Has anyone tried Scott 340 receiver? www.mapleshaderecords.com is selling modded Scott for $1,325. Quoted as "Better than $11,000 worth of solid state electronics I'd heard earlier".
Big Stupid Warm Speakers
I'd recommend Vandersteen, similar to Von Schweikert but even less "hifi". Even bigger, warmer sound, less precise - more musical.
