Anyone else feel left out?
I do, especially when I read the U.S. audio mag's like Stereophile where "A" preamps range from a $4,300 SimAudio to a $39,000 Boulder. Okay, I left out the $1,000 Plecette passive. That's not a true pre anyhow, (dodging flames).I have found plent...
Best CD lens cleaner
Second the compressed air. Marantz recommended this to me as well.
What's Going On?? Sound changes every night
Music has been said to be like a condiment. Put on something to complement your mood or the situation.
What's Going On?? Sound changes every night
I agree with Onhwy61. You can get ear or brain fatigue after listening to music for a couple of days. Take a few days off and avoid loud noises (I wear hearing protection) and when you go back to your stereo, it should sound great. I've had bright...
What is PRaT
Single driver speakers have great prat. Listening to Blind Melon's "Tones of Home" right now and yea, the toes are tapping - with bass response flat only to 80 Hz. Go figure.
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Getting hung up on detail, not music will keep one constantly wanting to upgrade to improve "sound" but will this improve the "music"?Is detail musically important? How much detail is necessary? Can overemphasis on detail draw attention away from ...
When is it time to up grade?
How about some speakers?
"The Law of Diminishing Returns"???
Thanks Sean. Upgrading components is a good place to start. I liked your past ideas about ISO transformer but I think of:1) better power supply / larger e-core transformer to replace torroidial. Naim and Cyrus both do this to upgrade their amps.2)...
What Integrated Amp & Speakers for $1,000?
Epos M12 and Creek 4330 integrated are about $800 and make great music.
"The Law of Diminishing Returns"???
I can agree with Sean about modding components but does anyone here know how to do this? I would like to mod my Denon UD-M31 mini-system? I've asked at everysite I know with no responses.Short of reading a bunch of books on power amp design, power...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Jes45, I burned the black CDR on a Marantz pro CDR500 at 1x. Like I said, what one person says is "better" is highly subjective. IMHO "Muddy, fuzzy, low fidelity sound" is worse not better. But I have seen more than one audiophile trade in his hig...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Gonglee3, the computer burning technique may be okay but IMHO black Cd's were total garbage. Muddy, fuzzy, low fidelity sound. Sort of like going from 16 bit to the 12 bit CD player in my Denon mini-system.Another thought, if one prefers low fidel...
help narrowing down my list of speakers, $2500
I agreee with Gmood1 on the active speakers. Amp / speaker interface is very critical. Jamie, you want real? Then why alter the sound with amps? Real is real it's not tweakable.Try some ATC active 10's, perfect for a small room. If you judge by so...
New York, New York - Audio Stores?????
I was really happy with the change in attitude at In Living Stereo. They weren't so nice when I went the first time. Much better last summer. For some strange reason I have always been treated well at Sound By Singer. Maybe I lucked out with the sa...
acoustic placement/small bright room
Robm321, what about carpeting? Also bookcases filled with books.I have the same problem but refuse to turn my home into an anechoic chamber. Right now I use an equalizer. Parametric is better than graphic BTW.
