Talkin' bout YOUR generation...
Stuff I listened to myself: Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Devo, Talking Heads. If I had to pick one of these as a 'defining band' for my 11-17 period, it would be Zep.Stuff I was subjected to by my friends: Supertramp, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel.
Best headphone amp for new Senn 650's
I am forced to chime in with my opinion on the Earmax Pro. I had a Headroom Max (SS amp) and the Earmax Pro is simply superior with HD650s--more liquid sound, less fatigue (crossfeed notwithstanding), amazing bass. Be aware that the Earmax PRO is ...
1st sound vs. placette?
Bigkidz, have you compared the Tom Evans Vibe to some of the other top preamps mentioned in this thread--First Sound, Placette active, Klyne, Pass, Ayre K1? I'd be interested to hear more about this unit since it is not well known over here.
Kharma, Wilson Sophia, JM Labs I'm confussed????
Aponter, you're a funny guy. I had such a great laugh seeing how you missed both the smiley at the end of Fmpnd's post (or maybe you didnt' understand what a smiley is), and also his system--linked right after his name, with Kharma speakers as the...
Air Velocity Transformer: Is This A Solid Theory?
Anyone interested in the Heil drivers must check out Adam Audio speakers. They use a version of the Heil for the tweeter...PLUS they have a separate Heil-type driver for the midrange (!)...plus they use what seem to be excellent Hexacone woofers. ...
Thoughts on Pass X250 - X600 amps
Dky, for amps in the same range, like the X250 and the X600: more watts = more class A power = more natural sound. So if you can afford the X600s, they would be a fine choice.
static electricity
An easy way to get rid of static: Spray your carpet with a mix of half fabric softener and half water, using an empty Windex bottle or something similar. It gets rid of the static for an entire winter. Be sure to choose fragrance-free softener, or...
is a subwoofer for music a good idea??
In my experience, adding a sub can really help, but only if it's a good sub and only if you really work at positioning and room treatment...or if you 'cheat' by using a parametric equalizer. If you're willing to go up to something like the Rel Str...
I auditioned SACD today
The improvements of SACD over CD to my ears are small, incremental differences. I did not expect night and day, so I was not disappointed, but I do like what I'm hearing with them.
What preamp to buy for my Aragon Palladiums..
If you want a reliable, very neutral and clean preamp with a 20 year transferable warranty, consider the Bryston BP25.
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Why not use a recording that you yourself have made? You control the instruments and the venue, so you know exactly how it sounds. It does not have to be 'music'--because you are using it strictly to compare systems. You could gather your entire fa...
Is solid state on the brink of extinction?
Hey Khrys, would you be so kind as to post more detailed impressions of the class D and T amps you have heard? I'd love to hear them compared to the top notch SS stuff you have auditioned in your home, e.g. in terms of:-frequency response at extre...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Samuel (Grant), thanks for one of the most well-written posts. Your points about power cords are actually less important than your point about people having different hobbies: some of us are into audio, while others are into Internet arguments.
Bryston BP-25 vs. Plinius CD-LAD
I love my BP25:-quiet--no self noise-dynamic-built solidly-great warranty-flexible, with lots of outs and a great remote.
Preamp & headphone amp hookup - I need your help
Hooking up a headphone amp via the tape loop is the preferred way to do it, because it takes one volume control out of the signal path.
