Comparing Wadia vs. Meitner Fmpnd, sorry you won't be posting...I for one have enjoyed your inputs. I'ts really too bad if some people can't take them in context.
Review: Krell FPB-700cx Amplifier Thanks for the review. I'm especially interested to hear your comments on the midrange quality and the non-fatiguing nature of your setup.
SLS Speakers Are any of the good things you read on the web? SLS don't seem to get any respect on AA Planar forum; I've only seen negative comments there.
"I am there" vs. "They are here" Perhaps 'you are there' will become possible with properly-done multichannel audio.
"I am there" vs. "They are here" The best I have been able to achieve in my system is the 'window onto another place': A window, about 11 feet wide and 3 feet high, which opens not onto the end of my room but into wherever the performers were. Perhaps this is equivalent to 'they ...
Do 1st Order XO's produce a smaller Dawgbyte, the Adam Audio speakers use the Heil principle, not only for the tweeter but also for the midrange (on some models). Check them out: http://www.adam-audio.de/True, the MBLs need big amps, and they also have an inherent weakness: Some kin...
Do 1st Order XO's produce a smaller Dawgbyte, have you heard either the mbl or the Duevel speakers? both are omnidirectional designs. I have heard the mbls--remarkable speakers, with a huge sweet spot (not the whole room in my experience, but very very wide and deep), great dynamics...
What am I hearing??? Bomarc, 2 or 3 posters above gave their explanations of time smear in cables. It sure sounded convincing...why are you so categorical in saying that this is definitely not the cause of what Fbi is hearing?
I need more cowbell.... My suggestion: Get a better rack (e.g. the GPA Monaco) and try a really good power conditioner (I like my BPT 3.5 Signature). The combination of these 2 items pushed my system from 'very good' to 'outstanding'.
Best tracks to "show off" your system A couple of fun ones: Dafos (Mickey Hart) and Mondo Head (Kodo). Both are audiophile drumming albums, both are superbly recorded.
McIntosh MC- 501 vs Pass X-600 vs Parasound JC-1 why not try the Clayton S2000 or M2000? The Claytons have a reputation for richness, fullness, detail without treble edge. they also have great power and current delivery, doubling down into lower impedances (unlike the McIntosh which is a constan...
best monitors above 300Hz Re the monitors: VMPS are very impressive speakers, especially considering the price: fast, detailed, transparent.
What sub do "U" use ? Rel Storm III. Compact cabinet and lots of options for adjustment.
What amp to drive the MBL 101d's? Why not try a Krell? With speakers as insensitive as the MBLs, it would seem that a Krell is a natural choice: High power, high current too.It might also be interesting to try a high-powered digital amp on them, such as a Spectron Musician.
Does Your System Sound Like the Real Thing? On some kinds of music: yes, in particular on percussion, voice, and smaller ensembles. A distant perspective (meaning the microphones were relatively far away from the instruments they recorded) also helps the illusion of realism. |
