Simple question, or is it... Let me add my paltry understanding. An audio signal is an electrical signal that replicates a sound wave. The electrical voltage varies in the same way as the sound pressure (wave) that it represents varies. Both in strength and frequency. The var...
If you had to start all over again in this day and age Have two systems that have been continuously evolving over many years. They are “lower to middle third” of high end in price. So upgrading any single component/cable, etc would have almost no impact on SQ. Vinly is better than streaming on both s...
Looking for an integrated amp around 4000 to 5000. I recently replaced a Rogue Cronus Magnum II with a Manley Stingray II. The Manley is quite excellent and compares to much more expensive separates in my main system. If your speakers are efficient enough, use the triode mode.
have you ever bought stereo without listening first All my recent purchases were based on a combination of personal experience with similar products from the same manufacturer, or recommendations from highly regarded sources. Examples:Pass Labs XA60.5 (had an XA30.5 first)Goldenear Triton One.R (ha...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? Just purchased and installed a new A-T ART9. Very pleased with the sound initially. Can’t directly compare to other cartridges, but vinyl is superior in every comparison With hi-res digital.
What Brand Of Hearing Aids Are Audiophiles Using? Ps: The Oticons are practically invisible. They also enable me to evaluate subtle differences as I modify my stereo system
What Brand Of Hearing Aids Are Audiophiles Using? For some years I was reluctant to get hearing tested though I knew there was at least some hi freq loss in one ear. I was afraid it would make music sound tinny. But recently I got great quality hearing aids and now I don’t listen to music without...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? Thanks again for your comments. The posters seem divided on pro-used cartridges vs anti-used. Taking all your thoughts into consideration, for me, at this price range, I’m probably going new with an AT ART9, to minimize variables. Also to have a l...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? Lots of interesting thoughts, and few entertaining ones. (Like now I have to catalog the cost ratios of all my components to see if they meet the audiophile acceptable standards.)Seriously, this thread has convinced me to buy new - and from a bri...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? Current analog front ends are:Hana EL, Pro-ject RPM-9 with Evolution graphite arm. EAR 834P phono pre.Vintage HOMC Adcom Crosscoil with Soundsmith ruby upgrade (really), Oracle Delphi V with granite plinth, SME 309 arm, Manley Chinook phono pre.Bo...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? Your responses have been very helpful. I think that I will avoid high hours used cartridges. Too many unknowns.I’m now thinking that about $1000 on something like a new Hana ML or AT ART9 is a better way to go. While possibly not as fine as some $...
Tone controls -- assuming you're ok with them, when would you try them? Well, I got my Loki just to see what it would do. Schiit shipped the day I ordered it.Love it! And, it did not noticeably degrade sound quality as far as I could tell. It can be bypassed with one pushbutton on the Manley remote. With the mid bass...
Tone controls -- assuming you're ok with them, when would you try them? The disadvantage of using the tape loop circuit (vs preamp/amp or source) is that there will be 2 extra sets of interconnects vs. one extra set. You may spend more on the ICs than the Loki, and have more cable degradation.
Tone controls -- assuming you're ok with them, when would you try them? I’ve had older multi-band equalizers. All degraded the SQ of high-mid to high end systems. The hope is that the Loki will essentially be transparent (although it does add either one or 2 ICs into the signal circuit). At $150, and easily bypassed, ...
Bare cartridge design, Sumiko Blackbird Low Output Btw. I’m using the Hana as a temporary fill-in after I destroyed my Blackbird. Will probably upgrade eventually, but it is way better than I expected. Am in no hurry to replace it. |
