Where to go from here? upping the tube ante
Fatparrot, looks like you're right. They are white-box CV4004 Mullards! Looks like I still have a lot to learn about what is really what in the tube world. However, they are better than what came with the C2200 originally. For the record, I never ...
Help with speakers for Blue Circle Integrated Amp
I have this exact set up: BC CS integrated with Jolida CDP. I use them with Spendors S3/5s in my home office. The Spendors would normally require more power, but for office listening it works fine. You could put these speakers on stands or you cou...
Anyone make an "audiophile" USB-RCA interconnect?
Hmmm, sounds like the headphone out is the best option for now! However, I'm sure in time as hard drives become more prominant as music transports the right kind of cables and connections will appear.
Jadis Defy 7 vs Antique Sound Lab Hurricane
I'm pretty sure the Jadis is the BMW equivalent.
Where to go from here? upping the tube ante
I used Mullard 12AX7s from Upscale Audio. The ones I was using previously were the stock tubes. I had the Macintosh MCD205 for a while and although i can't do an A/B demo I'm pretty sure that my ears prefer the Audio Note DAC. I'd bet money on it....
How often to Audiophiles upgrade their equipment?
Over the past year I've upgraded quite often because it had been about 20 years since I upgraded before that (high school). It wasnt so much upgrading as it was exploring how things sound differently. Some were upgrades, some were side-grades. Rig...
Anyone compare Mcintosh MC2102 to new Mcintosh SS?
Sounds like it's a tradeoff with no losers. My system runs for hours on end too and the "little heater" causes me some grief, but I just love it too much, especially with acoustic instruments. It sounds so darn natural. Fall's here anyway so i can...
Classic McIntosh sound?
Goose, how does it compare to Herron?
CEC Transport
Mutine is taking over distribution of CEC. They're coming out with new models too. They have something on their web site about handling repairs from older CEC transports too. http://mutine.com/pages/cecen.html
Transports for Audio Note DACs?
Actually I was planning on keeping the EMC-1 anyway for the reasons you outline. It's been a great player and on the used market it's worth half or less of what it cost new. I'd like to demo some transports to see how they compare in tandem with t...
EMM Labs Dac-6
According to UHF magazine in the October issue "the format war is over" and DVD-Audio is the new Betamax. They state that their were 160 companies behind DVD-A, but none of them "fed it". I guess that's why the DVD-A marketing coalition was recent...
Gryphon gets no press, but is great.
I think Gryphon has re-entered the US market this year. I would have liked to demo their products, but they were not available at the time. Everything I had heard about them was great. Their integrateds are pricey, though: $7000 for the 2100 and $...
Classic McIntosh sound?
Warm, musical. Not analytical at all. There have been several reviews of the MA6900: Stereophile and several British mags. All very positive. I had it for a while, then upgraded to the tubed seperates. Even better.
How does power cord affect a digital frontend?
I know it does too, but I don't understand it. What exactly is going on with different powercords? What are the physics behind how a powercord effects a component. Is it simply that it gets the electricity more easily through better powercords, or...
Good Universal Player with Balanced Outs
Huh, Linn may have come out with a Unidisk 2.1 since an $11,000 universal player is probably a tough sell in the current market.
