I want digital audio The G5 is a good deal. I Googled for "digital music servers" and came up with a Marantz unit that had 80 GB storage that retailed for around $2800 (it outputs analog only). With the G5 you get a computer too! I just wish it had a different type of...
Blue Circle BC3 vs. McIntosh C2200? This seems like an odd comparison, but I've done it, though not directly. I've had both. I first had the BC3 paired with a BC28 hybrid amp. This was a great setup, but I was missing some dynamics and bottom end. The dealer thought the BC28 would b...
Review: Blue Circle Audio Sugarbrie Tube Preamp Tube preamp Wow, I know Gilbert is accomodating and creative, but this is spectacular!
Preamp & headphone amp hookup - I need your help Using the tape loop completely bypasses the volume control in the preamp. It's similar to hooking up the source directly to the headphone amp. You will have no problems, but you will have to use the volume control on the headphone amp.
Mcintosh C2200 Ask Mcintosh. I'm curious too.

Opinions of the new Mac 252 power amp. IMO, any Mcintosh amp is good. Very musical and dynamic. The MC2102 is a great amp, but it is more expensive and runs hot because of the tubes.
Mac C2200 Vs Supratek Chardonnay/Syrah line-stage Snook2's idea is good, but it's not the route I preferred. To each his own. I had an Opus 21 CDP that could run direct. I tried both variations and preferred using a preamp to running direct. The direct route was more transparent, but including th...
Marantz SA-14: Original vs. Version 2? I saw it last night in the Music Direct catalog. I think it was around $3000.
Opinions on Electrocompaniet Amps I know a dealer who has more trouble with his Electrocompaniet gear than he does with any of his tube gear. However, my EMC-1 CDP has functioned flawlessly for over a year.
New Headphone User I agree: get yourself an aftermarket cable (I recommend the Equinox by Stefan AudioArt) and a headphone amp (I recommend the Ray Samuals Audio XP-7, but there's lots of great choices out there -- depends on yopur budget and taste). The Stax set up...
Better than KT-88s? I no longer have the issue, but the preferred KT88 was one of those rare old Gold Lion versions that now go for something like $125 a pop. The truth hurts.
BAT VK-D5, worthwhile to get external dac? You could add an external DAC and use the BAT as the transport until you decide to upgrade the transport. One good thing about using a CDP as a transport is if the DAC needs to be serviced you still have a CDP, but this is just a bonus, not a reas...
Tube DACs I second the Audio Note DACs. I have the 2.1x balanced, purchased used. I also have the Wavelength Audio Cosine DAC which is very similar in design and concept (tube output, zero sampling) that I use in a headphone system. |
