UPS is in bed with the devil,
Apparently there are some shipping companies trying to move into the American market to offer some competition. UPS and FedEx are all over the world, but appear to be blocking any attempt to let foreign competition into America. But granted it wou...
UPS is in bed with the devil,
How could they have charged you for the shipping when they did not ship it? Sounds truly wrong to me and I would fight them on that one. And at least fight them on the $4 fee for talking to a human being (why do we charge each other to talk to eac...
The Thor TPA 150 Monoblocks are incredible
I've heard Thor gear too, in a demo of CD players. I still remember clearly the sound. It left a vivid wonderful impression on my mind, but I cannot afford it. It sounds to me like Musicdesign could have just gotten excited and wanted to tell his/...
need advice on downsizing system for smaller room
I agree, Keep what you have for now and see how it works out. Then decide if it's just not going to work. I've found Tannoy speakers to be good for nearfield. You could get a pair of their pro monitors with the dual concentric driver. Or Spendor S...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Find the system you love, that is, it gets you going, digging the music, it gets you wanting to get into more kinds of music, but whatever tradeoffs it has you can live with 'cause nothing is perfect. The m...
Where to find obscure classical recordings?
Holy cow, it worked! They had everything. Question is, why not just show these results on the regular Amazon.com web site? At least with commentary like, "we were unable to find that CD here, but it's available through Amazon.com UK... Would you l...
Blue Circle 21.1 vs Eastern Electric Minimax
Well, the BC gear is from a great, reputable company. It sounds worth every penny and will easily resell. It gets my vote.
Best front loading transport tha plays RB and SACD
Do you mean purely as a transport? I don't think such a thing exists excpet for the upcoming Meitner transport. In the future you may see more transports that output a DSD signal along with redbook, but not right now. The Philips SACD1000 can be m...
ElectrocompanietEMC1 vs. ResolutionAudio Opus21?
I've had both and compared them side by side. Aesthetically the EMC-1 is better. The Opus 21 is nice, but more mundane looking. However, in the sound department the Opus 21 is better. It's very close, but my ears preferred the Opus 21: slightly mo...
Power + a bit of warmth for $2K or less?
Used Mcintosh.
Better than KT-88s?
The recent Vacuum Tube Valley magazine compared several KT88 and 6550 tubes. The top tube was a KT88, but the 6550s were very close.
Balanced Tube Preamps I Should Try
The Mcintosh C2200 is not fully balanced, but it is, as Aball stated, an outstanding preamp. I've had it for about a year now and just won't let it go. A recent issue of Hifi+ gave it rave reviews. They honestly did not expect much (Mcintosh, lawy...
What gets better as you go up in Audio Note DACs?
Wow, thanks!
Anyone know if Esoteric DV-30 is coming to the US?
I heard from my local Esoteric dealer that the DV-30 won't be available in the US market. However, when the fervor over the DV-50 slows down we might see it. There are also some new even higher-end Esoteric players coming out in Japan.
Favorite DAC?
Can't leave out the Audio Note DACs. One of the component additions that got me saying "wow", again and again.
