Best U.S. made integrated tube amp under $2500?
Clearly you mean 'assembled' in the USA. There is no new tube amp that does not contain some amount of 'foreign' content. You may be able to find a vintage amp with a lost less foreign content but in bringing it up to spec you will need to use for...
E V Patricians-- JBL Hartsfields- Your choice
Best you first hear the JBL Everest line, which is the successor to Hartsfield's. I was a great fan of the Khorn's, it was the first hi end speaker I ever heard and I was blown away. When I did hear the Hartsfield, the bar was raised. I've heard t...
Vinyl presses on last leg? Pressing limitations st
Just last week we have people complaining about the high cost of new vinyl. Do not worry about the plants and equipment, the green crowd is working to actually ban the vinyl itself, so problem solved.
Help a recovering audiophile build a system
I will not be your 'enabler'. I have enough problems of my own.
Fun Little Project for improving Dynamics
Hey, I thought all the witches were in Delaware. Guess I was wrong. Christine will be looking for work next week, so give her a call.
Speaker positioning on dedicated room
Hope you have read Floyd Toole's 'Sound Reproduction' book. It will give you some good guidance.
The Great Vinyl Debate
Best to wait for the audio Blu-Ray which will go for $25. The sonics beat anything on vinyl. Yes, I am still into vinyl, close to 8,000 lps, but I do not buy new vinyl as it is not a good value. Knowing the business model of new vinyl I do not thi...
Separate Insurance Policy - LP's, Memorabilia, Etc
Chubb is a great company to insure the vintage media. The last quote I got from them to insure all my media, 7000 lps, 1500 tapes, 10,000 cds was $960 per year. Replacement value of the collection is $300,000.
DEMAND DSD
Blu-ray is the future. It will expand the SACD window and just think, the reissues can be very profitable for the original owners.
Townhouse speaker dilemma
Save for a single family detached house with no close neighbors, and move. All other solutions are half measures.
Best way to categorize your Vinyl collection
Years ago I gave up on using some alpha filing scheme and went to a numerical approach and a computerized data base (collectorz.com} that is used with a bar scanner. Still cataloging but hopefully will finish late next year. I'm often surprised on...
component cones/spikes vs. rubber
Moon Gel is the answer. It is a product used by drummers and available in the big box music stores and on line. Cost about $6, so you have little to lose. Check it out. I use the product on speakers that are on book shelves.
Good Horn Speakers Of Moderate Size
Look at the vintage Klipsch, laSala, Cornwall.
Does the Audio Research PH-3 Invert Polarity?
For those interested, the VAS Citation I pre amp has a phase switch. I've found it useful and have been very pleased with the unit. I did have a ARC PH3 initially and when I compared it to the VAS, it was no contest, VAS was much better.
Da difference of sound between Grace
I currently have and play the ruby. Great cartridge. I also have the 8 and regular 9 and have had them mounted in the same unit that currently plays the ruby. Yes, ruby is better if it is in top notch shape. As with all vintage cartridges, conditi...
