VPI or Pro-ject
For a cartridge, you could take a hard look at an AT OC9/II.  It needs careful set-up and a good phono stage, but will reward the listener far beyond it's price.  I attribute the criticism for the OC9/II to poor set-up or a poor phono stage match up.

What's your budget for a cart?
VPI or Pro-ject
Holding value is only important if this is a temporary stepping stone to a better table in the future. Both the VPI Prime and Project Extension are both very good tables.  You should listen in your system in your room with the cartridge you intend ...
What do you do when you live hours from nowhere
I have an audiophile friend that lives in Libby, MT.  He is active in forums and email lists.  Great guy.  He attends electronics shows as part of his vacations and meets people who are in the forums and lists, spends time listening to equipment a...
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
Herron Audio M1.  Outstanding amp personally tested by Keith Herron.  Not cold transistor sound, not artificially colored by tube warmth.  Just clean, detailed, dynamic and musical.  I own 6 Herron Audio amps, but 4 of them are too old to update t...
ARC VT100MK2 substitute
Everyone has their personal tastes, but my amp preference is the Herron M1.  I have 6 Herron Audio amps, 4 x M150 (too early to qualify for upgrade) and 2 M1 amps.  I have never been disappointed with them.  Not transistor cold, but not tube warm,...

Bass is not enough !!! Speaker problem? Speaker cable? Power Amp? PC of Power Amp?
Bass is all about moving air, speaker placement and seating position.  If one of those factors are wrong, then bass suffers.  Period.
VPI scout. giant killer value
I thought you said you didn't like the VPI unipivot arms.
TT Speed Control/ Phoenix Roadrunner and Eagle Review
I stand corrected.  The Eagle power supply does include a voltage reduction after the platter has reached normal operating speed.
TT Speed Control/ Phoenix Roadrunner and Eagle Review
Though speed stability is very important (who wants wow?), in my opinion, what is really needed is voltage reduction to minimize the synchronous pulse noise from the motor.   I use a $60 Variac on an original VPI Aries.  I start the table on 120v....
Linn sondek vs sme
tzh21y - Nothing wrong with the VPI arms.  It's users that claim there is a problem because they don't know how to use the VPI pivoted arm.  Or you can just invest in a Jelco SA-750 (name your length) and have a good-working pivoted arm that will ...

Was the comparison made by Pete Townsend?
Turntable for life
It appears that the VPI Prime might fit the bill for a table for life.  It's a very good performer today.  VPI has a great track record for providing meaningful upgrades to keep their tables performing strongly in the future.
