SOTA vs VPI (or stick with my Rega?) In my opinion, get the Prime. Hands down. No rega can compete with it. Or spends thousands on upgrading a rega to still fall short.

Highest detail cartridges @chakster Many audio products have that kind of frequency. It's just that they are down significantly at the extremes.
Highest detail cartridges @bifwynne Let me know if you decide to retire the Kleo. I'll be happy to liberate it. ;-)
Highest detail cartridges @bifwynne A member of Audiogon I trust has reviewed the Zephyr MIMC Star and Orto Quintet Black. Here is the post:https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/3-cartridges-reviewedHTH.
SOTA vs VPI (or stick with my Rega?) In my opinion....Spending more money on a Rega? Trying to turn the proverbial sow’s ear into a silk purse? Ain’t gonna happen. Throwing good money after bad. Rega performance is very limited compared to VPI tables or SOTA tables.
Highest detail cartridges @amg56 - Absolutely. It stands to reason that EVERY component in the chain from the table / arm / cartridge through the speakers has to be capable processing that detail and moving it to the listener's ears.
Highest detail cartridges I'm currently using what started out os a Lyra Clavis DC but was recently refitted with a Boron cantilever and line contact stylus. Still in breakin. Kept the detail (maybe improved it) but definitely improved the sonics. I'm just looking for ...
LOOKING TO MAKE A TURNTABLE CHANGE, HOPEFULLY AN IMPROVEMENT @bac2vinylMy opinion and experience....I had the complete opposite of what you described. I spent a LOT on CD playback, especially on the DAC. I enjoy buying and playing CDs. They are clean, but a bit smeared compared to vinyl. Subtle dynamics...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart @rauliruegas Your words "there is no worst blind that the one that did not want to see." says the individual that refuses to "see" that engineering design of tube equipment can, and often does, provide superior results over solid state equipment. ...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart @rauliruegas "enough for now"? Too much for nothing. Concise is nice. So you're a manufacturer hawking your own design? That doesn't exactly make you an objective source of information. Since you're not an objective source of information, yo...
LOOKING TO MAKE A TURNTABLE CHANGE, HOPEFULLY AN IMPROVEMENT There is so much in table set-up and tweaks. We can recommend until we're blue in the face. But in the end, all that may REALLY be needed are some good tweaks that will help your existing system perform at a higher level. Cones under the plinth...
Vinyl Cleaning @wags.... My educated opinion and personal experience.....Before figuring out what mix to use or what formula to put on your precious vinyl records, it is necessary to determine what needs to be cleaned from the grooves. It makes NO sense to creat...
SOTA vs VPI (or stick with my Rega?) And yes, @tooblue has found a gem. The SCoutmaster for $1600 is a great deal. Be prepared to put that table on Bear Claws or Stillpoint Cones in the same way as the description of the Aries setup. VPI cone/feet don't work very well.
SOTA vs VPI (or stick with my Rega?) @gritter2 IIn my opinion, there is another option you might consider....Search around for an early (v1 or v2) VPI Aries or Aries Extended (MUCH preferred). t might take a little while since, even used, these early Aries are in pretty high dema... |
