Phono cable and preamp for soundsmith Carmen mk2
Herron Audio VTHP-2A phono stage. Herron Audio interconnects. Just use 18 - 20 gauge insulated wire for a ground wire.
I need your help. I have an ARC Ref 3, ARC 110, Vandersteen 5As, but no turntable.
@rauliruegas  - You are EXTREMELY BIASED toward SS and have deep financial interests in the products you promote.
Wywires Platinum much better than H T Crystal Silver for Phono on my VPI Aries 1 ?
My opinion....I'm not sure I like silver wire anywhere in a good stereo.  To my ear, pure copper seems better.  Good copper interconnects seem to reveal more detail without emphasis on any band in the audio spectrum.  Silver seems to add more brig...

Here goes @rauliruegas, again.  Trying to write a classic novel in every comment.  And still in full denial that tubes work as well or better than solid state for phono stages.  Poor fellow.  Keeps getting his financial interests above reality.
LP Anti Static Brush
My ritual for EVERY record I play (short version concentrating on the static question).....I mute the preamp (using the remote control) and ground myself to the chassis.  Then I first touch the table.  Regardless of whether I am wearing any static...
Best Cartridge for $1000-$1350?
@deanshias   Facts mixed to my opinion and the opinions of others....The ART-9 is very highly regarded and is the pinnacle of the AT "house sound."  But it is a low output MC cart that will require a phono stage capable of handling low output cart...
Herron VTPH-2A phono preamp owner's advice.
I am breaking in a VTPH-2A that just got a few tweaks (full upgrade previously completed and broken in).  Minor changes but I can hear the unit breaking in again.  It just takes a little time.  I'm using stock tubes and grinning ear-to-ear.
Best Cartridge for $1000-$1350?
Have you considered an AT ART-9 (low output)?  Maybe spend a few dollars more to get a Soundsmith Zephyr III?
Spend my $1000 on a turntable
Try the cart in a different table.  There are a lot of possible irreparable or expensive to repair problems with that table and / or arm.  If the table is truly trashed, then maybe a different table is in order as suggested above.  My opinions on ...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable
My opinion.... I tend to agree with @chakster in that it would seem a good idea to repair the SL1200 (and maybe the phono stage) and mount a good cart. Maybe a Jelco SA-750 of a new Jelco 850 arm could be a significant upgrade, everything else bei...
Which wood Grado
I had a Sonata.  That's why I now use a Lyra Clavis DC (rebuilt by Soundsmith) and keep an AT OC9/II as a spare.  Never Grado again.  Never.  Will sell my vinyl collection before I stoop down that low.  But that's only my studied and experienced o...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable
In my opinion....You would be much better off finding a used VPI HM-19 MK III with a decent arm and painting it gloss red. Replace the springs with some rubber or sorbothane blocks / pucks. Whole package could come in for under $1000. It will bett...
VPI Prime or Scout or ???
AMEN to @1graber2 .  From personal experience, VPI is VERY good to work with and I live 1,000 miles away.  They do want customers to work with local dealers, but will make an "accommodation" to make sure customer's needs are met.
VPI Prime or Scout or ???
Your money, your call. The VERY BEST thing to do is listen to the tables and carts to determine what will be best for YOU.
VPI Prime or Scout or ???
So when did you compare the arms head-to-head?  Or are you just stating an opinion based on a lack of actual objectivity?
