Spend my $1000 on a turntable My opinion.... I tend to agree with @chakster in that it would seem a good idea to repair the SL1200 (and maybe the phono stage) and mount a good cart. Maybe a Jelco SA-750 of a new Jelco 850 arm could be a significant upgrade, everything else bei...
Which wood Grado I had a Sonata. That's why I now use a Lyra Clavis DC (rebuilt by Soundsmith) and keep an AT OC9/II as a spare. Never Grado again. Never. Will sell my vinyl collection before I stoop down that low. But that's only my studied and experienced o...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable In my opinion....You would be much better off finding a used VPI HM-19 MK III with a decent arm and painting it gloss red. Replace the springs with some rubber or sorbothane blocks / pucks. Whole package could come in for under $1000. It will bett...
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? AMEN to @1graber2 . From personal experience, VPI is VERY good to work with and I live 1,000 miles away. They do want customers to work with local dealers, but will make an "accommodation" to make sure customer's needs are met.
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? Your money, your call. The VERY BEST thing to do is listen to the tables and carts to determine what will be best for YOU.
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? So when did you compare the arms head-to-head? Or are you just stating an opinion based on a lack of actual objectivity?
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? @roberjerman My opinion is that the SA-750 isn't even close to ANY VPI arms. I have owned both. The VPI is so much better as to defy casual comparison.Which VPI arms have you owned and testes head-to-head with a SA-750?
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? My opinion....Might want to consider a Soundsmith Otello. I opine that you might want to be a little careful about "warm" sound. It can get congested and mask some desirable detail and tight timing.
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? What kind of preamp / phono section do you have?
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? In my opinion....Prime. Might as well pop for the real package rather than paying more to upgrade in the future. And you WILL want to upgrade eventually.
Which wood Grado In my opinion....You're better off getting an Otello Soundsmith cart. Much better choice and it fits your budget. And when you like the way it performs, it only costs $100 or so to rebuild to new. And if you want "more" during the rebuild, mayb...
I need your help. I have an ARC Ref 3, ARC 110, Vandersteen 5As, but no turntable. A D103R? Really? Why not a REAL cartridge like an AT OC9/II? The 103r can't compete at around the same price. D103 was only EVER an OK cartridge in the 70s. That's the 1970s. It's now a cult cart of sub-mediocre performance. Only after majo...
I need your help. I have an ARC Ref 3, ARC 110, Vandersteen 5As, but no turntable. @fsonicsmith Given the OP's lack of stated budget constraints, why not suggest a good system rather than a more limited on?
I need your help. I have an ARC Ref 3, ARC 110, Vandersteen 5As, but no turntable. @jaym759In my studied opinion and personal experience....I don't use ARC electronics any more (I used to, but moved on), but a lot of people (including myself) think the Herron Audio VTPH-2A is about as good as it gets for a phono stage. Exceptio...
Herron VTPH-2A phono preamp owner's advice. @dwette I use only the tubes provided by Keith. I have not found the need to use anything different. I keep in touch with Keith and he lets me know if he has found something better. I get my VTPH-2a to him for the change. When he works on a uni... |
