Class D for a Tube Lover
Hi my friend! Don't by a used Class D amp. They are all made before the newest and best generation of Class D amps were developed. You can buy new for under $1400. If you catch a "sale" price, even less. The big deal is that Class D amps have fina...
Has Digital Audio Tech Plateaued - Is It Safe To Come Out Now?
Hi Rooze!  The big deal is that Class D amps have finally come to fulfill the promise of the concept. It's really a lot more like an AM radio transmitter than a conventional audio amp. Once some fellows who understood UHF and radar gear turned the...
Class D for a Tube Lover
Don't believe the die-hards. The newest Class D amps fulfill the promise of that topology. They consume just a few watts more than they are outputting at any moment. Try the Starke Sound AD-320. Four channels, bridgeable to two, sounds great, huge...
Stirring Up Trouble
Our two eyes do not perceive color in the same way. Professional wine and tea tasters disagree. Let's be happy that each of us can put together a system that satisfies us as individuals. My wife doesn't think Chocolate Mint Chip is the best ice cr...
Looking for my Final Pair!!
Be sure to audition the Golden Ear Reference and the 1R. I have the original Triton 1s and they are pretty good and with the built in powered subwoofers, bass and impact is no problem.
Anyone have the Answer?
Try this: find a dealer who will let you audition one of those really pricy power cords. If the cord makes a noticeable improvement, your power is dirty and a "machine" will help. Good Luck!
Kef Blades (1), being auditioned...please share your experience.
Hi jay53!  I heard them at CES when they were introduced and liked them very much. Play around with placement and try angling them in so the "beams" cross over a foot or so in front of your listening position. Good luck!
Sub cable length?
Hi Colindshots!  All the responses so far are fine. but not specific enough for a newbie. Length is not a problem; just use 14 gauge, or heavier (lower numbers). I have used 14 gauge solid core wire in 70+ foot runs in auditorium installations wit...
DAC/w Volume control + Power amp or DAC + Integrated?
Hello czar 2000.  I'm using choice 1, keep it simple. SMSL M500 hs volume control and headphone amp, not pricey, sounds good.
CD or Streaming... am I missing out?
Hi mglik1   I never heard streaming that was as good as a CD. Compare Nina Simone's "Baltimore" with the streaming versions - doesn't sound like the same session. Why bother? New music, I know. Good Luck!
Would This Amp Be Worth The Cost?
Hi Greywolf.  At least check out the Starke A4-320 amp. Priced right, a USA company, sounds as good as the Purifi modules in the NAD M33 and the LKV power amp. Super value! 4 (bridgeable) channels for the price of 2. Linear power supply, no switc...
Is my anti-skating too strong.
Hello UDOG.  As you may have guessed by now, there is some controversy about anti-skate force! I did not read all the responses, but they quickly deteriorated into petty squabbling and personal put downs. I am sorry for that nonsense. The term "an...
Why do you need so much power?
The same reason people drive 250+ horsepower cars - effortless performance. The Emotiva has WAY more power than you will need, so it will never strain. Another BIG factor is that Emotiva's are reasonably priced. I have an 8 wpc amp that costs more...
Gave up my SET----looking for moderate to higher power replacement options
Hello lcherepkai!  I recently replaced my 300B, 8 wpc, Elekit 8600-RS with a Starke Sound A4-320. Four channels (can be bridged), Class D, absolutely glorious sound - a rival of the Purifi Audio module in the NAD M33 and the LKV power amp. It beat...
Help! Receiver or preamp? Im overwhelmed...
Hello jsbranham7!  I'm in just your situation, HT and surround sound music, hooray! I recommend the Emotiva MC-700 preamp/control center. It offers first class sound, but fewer decoding choices than a surround sound receiver. A used near top or to...
