Concrete Audio Speakers...Speaker Enclosures made out of Concrete ?..
Hello highend666.  Granite/Quartz countertops are frequently broken during transportation and installation. Broken bits can be had for very low prices and the shops that have them will cut them for you. I have made seven cabinets out of broken cou...
What have you been working on in 2020?
Hi Erik! Mundorf MKP capacitors replacing the rectangular pink caps on the Parts Express YuanJing 2 x 68w LM3886 and NE5532 board makes a big difference. Better yet, run you audio into the second cap and skip the NE5532 stage completely. DIY for...
Do It Yourself Speakers
By all means checkout Linkwitz Labs! Easy to build, unconventional looks, superb sound. I have built the Plutos, LXminis, and the LX521-4 (open baffel). No better sound for the $$. You can use other subwoofer sections with the LX521s as the "real ...
What has been your costliest mistake in this hobby?
Telling my 3rd wife what I spent on speakers.
Warn Sound Capacitor
I recommend Mundorf MKP 250 volt capacitors. In direct comparisons, I have not heard anything better. Replacing the existing (cheap) capacitors in your crossovers will make a remarkable improvement in any speakers you presently own.
I sold a CAL Aria Tube CD player and buyer claims a burning smell
That's his wife's hair burning because he spent more on audio gear than he spent on her. I had one of those once.
... abit confused: how does a power cord affect the presentation of sound...
Hello “insearchofprat,” I hope you are not overwhelmed with opinions as opposed to facts. Do you remember the little pocket FM radios that fed earphones. Athletic folks used them to exercise to music. Those radios did NOT have hard, collapsible an...
Who Here is Vertical Bi-Amping?
Hi mkgus. You asked for responses from people who have done vertical bi-amping. I have, and I liked it. I tried passive hi and low pass filters for the inputs of the amps (easy and cheap: $5-$10). That was better. Keep the lows off the tweeter wir...
Streaming: WiFi or wired??
Wired is twice as fast as wireless. That should be the deciding factor. It's bound to work better. I know a stereo/hi-fi dealer who now uses a streaming service to demo his gear. I asked him to demo some speakers sing a particular album I had at h...
Looking For Advice After Dumb Vandy Purchase
Do not despair!  If you want to use a passive crossover, send me the crossover frequencies you wish to use and all the data you can find on the driver's impedances and I will send you a schematic, parts list and estimated parts price from Parts Ex...
Can I bi-amp my speakers with two different amps?
Just to save you from blowing something up, be sure the amps are not connected to a common ground at the speaker end. Remove any connection at the speaker that ties the woofer and tweeter terminals together in ANY way. Keep them totally separate. ...
What could cause this amp to fail?
I had a problem similar to yours in a church auditorium. It turned out to be poorly soldered wires inside a phone pug with an all metal body. A strand of "hot" wire had come loose and touched the metal body of the phone plug used to connect the am...
Best small, desktop speakers, $500 or under (new or used)
You can easily build "the best small speaker I've ever heard" according to one Stereophile reviewer. It uses the SEAS tiny L12RE-XFC co-ax driver.I built the cabinet recommended by SEAS and put the speaker into it. The speaker itself was $165 o...
Need speaker cable
How about 65 CENTS per foot? Why pay huge $$ for cables? You can buy 50 conductor flat grey cable, used in computer systems, for $65 for a 100 foot roll from surplus outlets. There is a certain well regarded company selling flat cable for big buck...
What Do You Think . . . and How Does It Work?
I have built the Plutos, LXminis, and the 521-4s. Love them! The Plutos & Lxminis will "disappear" in the room. The tweeters for the Plutos are getting hard to find (I understand) but Madisound will have them if anyone does, also the complete ...
