Go with a tube preamp or not? John, I didn't catch the balanced & single ended requirements, I guess at 57 not only my hearing but eye sight & memory are all shot.Happy New Years to all!
Go with a tube preamp or not? John has some great advice if you have the funds to have more than one preamp at a time. I would also recommend a CJ - CT6 which you might find for around $2000 used. At that price used it is a very good preamp.
Pass X1?? There has been some good advice in the above answers. It really depends if you want to spend the extra money or not and if your system is revealing enough to hear the difference between the two preamps. I have heard both your current and X20 but i...
SET amp for Gallo ref 3.1 Hanshhh,There are many great SET speakers and they don't have to be large ugly looking. When I finally got back into a SET system I spend months researching all type of SET friendly speakers and believe me there were 10x,s as many as I ever dreame...
CJ MV60SE versus ARC VT100 series ii or iii I have owned the CJ & ARCii but not at the same time. The ARC are very good sounding amp and have a stronger bass than the CJ MVSE but in my opinion the CJ mid range was sweeter. The biasing for the ARC amps for me was also much more difficult...
SET amp for Gallo ref 3.1 Hanshhh,I have gone thru somewhat the same experience as you. I owned a very high quality 300b amp and just totally enjoyed the listening experience even though my speakers were not really designed for a low powered SET amp. Being the typical audi...
tuner better than turntable ? thread. I answered that other thread about a week ago. I currently don't have a turntable in my system but a near SOTA digital set up that I enjoy. My MD106T on certain broadcasts out performs my near SOTA digital system. I have owned turntables in the pa...
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ??? Having just discovered this thread I would like to make a few comments. First I read most of the answers skipping only a few. SS Amp to replace VAC 300.1 in a side-ways move? I have gone from tube to SS back to tube. The SS gear was very good but it was not in the tube league. I have heard your amp and it is in the upper level of tube gear and will be hard to beat. I will no longer be tempted to look at SS gear.
pre amp advise Tube preamp all the way. I have a Joule-Electra LA300ME preamp and I don't know how it can get any better.
Speakers for Luxman L 505 u What is your budget?
Monitors to replace Dynaudio Confidence C1's Budburma,I had a very simular situation that you currently have. I had a custom pair of monitor speakers made for me (very expensive)that are extremely revealing and on about 30% 40% of my CD's it was painful to listen to. I had a choice to make e...
deHavilland Electric Amp at RMAF I heard this amp well over a year ago at VSAC and it is very impressive. Shredder's impressions was very simular to mine. Well worth seeking out.
CD for Shindo System? Since Shindo also makes a turntable I would be willing to bet Ken uses his turntable to voice his equipment.
Looking For Neutral Tube Amp Recommendation I have a speaker with almost identical specs and I am running a 8 watts 300b amp (Air Tight) amp. The Air Tight drives these speakers like I have a 300 watt SS. If you feel you need more power the above choices are all good. BTW my room is 18 x 14... |
