So I bought some high efficent speakers and I like the sound and 300 watts per channel from the TRL's is an over kill. So like most audiophiles I am tr...

High power amp reccomendations, airy highs a must I have just listed my TRL mono blocks. 300 watts into 8 ohms and about double into 4 ohms. Take a look at the listing and read the various audiogon reviews. Solid State and sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Electrocompaniet EMC 1-UP pre-amp I owned the EMC-1UP for about 3 years. Like the above post it is an outstanding sounding CDP. It was also built like a tank. Highly recommended.
Help with final choice of efficient speakers Check out KCS speakers. Talk to John and tell him what you are looking for. He can also build a custom design for your needs.

Getting back into analog Who has heard Shindo preamps with their builtin phono & what was your opinion?
Getting back into analog Travis, Swampwalker & Dlshifi thank you for your recommendations. I should comment that I will be looking for tube options only.
Getting back into analog So far there has been some great suggestions. I realize that a external phono stage would provide more flexibility and easier to upgrade if I wanted to but the builtin one box solution has alot of appeal to me. Keep them coming.
Who has heard the Audio Research CD5? Realhifi,Have you been able to compare to the CD7.
What do you see as the downside of tubes? I have read most of the posts and the down side has been covered very well. I have owned various high quality tube and SS amps and speaker matching is the key. I have heard your speakers with a quality 300B amp and it was magical. The only way you...
10 percent for cables ??? Buy used and keep the cables that work best in your system and that you can afford. Don't worry about the percentages.
Which has greatest influence? I have read all the above responses and I believe all pieces in your system are important. Proper line conditing is just important & will make your system sing. I have heard your amp and I own a CJ preamp, a CT5 would be a great match.
matching speaker to room size? You have the classic problem of matching a speaker for yourroom. I have been through the same situation in a 14 x 18 with a 10 foot vaulted ceiling. In most cases medium size floorstanders should work fine in your room. You didn't state your budge... |
