Is a 12' X 16' room big enough for stereo?
Lots of good advice here. You should have a great time experimenting and tuning. My room is only 14 x 16 and is a challenge with my big speakers. Argent room lenses were just too big for the livability factor (and too expensive--Yowee!!) but some ...
Nuetrality be Damned...
As y'all know, there's a school of thought that contends that the key to audio satisfaction is the selection of equipment that introduces the kind of distortion that the buyer finds agreeable.
7500 for USED cables? Are they joking?
It is not too surprising that equipment vendors minimize the need for costly cables. The more spent on wire, the less spent on tubes or silicon.
Safe audiogon transactions; lowering the bar.
Lakefrontroad, I'm not sure what the point is in your ad hominem argument. As to my negative feedback on ebay, I make no secret of it, or the reason for it. In fact, I made that reason clear a while back.Email me privately, if you're interested, a...
Paradigm Reference v.1 versus v.2?
The difference is about 10kg (I think) and is due to internal crossbracing, not to shielding. My Sony can testify that they are NOT shielded.David, I'm intrigued. What do your and other ears hear? If you find the V1 sonically superior to the V2 yo...

Interesting point of view, Bill, in that you detail all the steps you take to protect yourself from uscrupulous buyers yet bristle at the idea that buyers might desire to protect themselves from unscrupulous sellers, as well. This isn't about paran...
Totally Confused about home theater
Sean, you are right on target! I wonder if the problem isn't that many HT people don't know what sound is supposed to sound like. If they've been watching VHS played on a Circuit City special sending RF to a 27" Magnavox, even horrid HT sound is a...
Which are the best HT speaker. REL,Aerial,Velodyne
Agree with the above. My personal choice is the Paradigm Reference range. Would use them for an all-music system but they perform well for HT.
Paradigm Reference v.1 versus v.2?
Less cabinet resonance.Improved midrange.Smoother transition across drivers.50% more backaches--V2 is a LOT heavier.
Movie Software make HT a Waste of Resources?
I suppose what I was suggesting, nanderson, was that this is perhaps not the ideal place to mount your intellectual hobbyhorse. That your preferences and purchasing decisions are driven by strong belief in a particular socioeconomic model is clear...

Thanks for your comments, Driver. I agree that a phone call or two is extremely useful. Also, when a seller feels awkward about COD, I always offer to pay a non-refundable deposit equal to the shipping and insurance. That means that the most that ...
Movie Software make HT a Waste of Resources?
Dear me, such heavy philosophical musings. Sounds like the review of a rock album in Rolling Stone. Hey, I once heard Thom Moon opine that Elvis Costello was a more profound philosopher than Alfred North Whitehead. Damn! All those years wasted in ...
Completely passive audio system...
OK, Gthrush1, you've made me wet my Depends. Thanks for a great start to my day!!!
Extended Warrenty???
I seldom buy extended warranties but a year or so ago I did when I picked up a Sony ES (can't recall the model offhand) CD jukebox for my son. It listed for $1100 and I bought it for $200 from Sound Advice without box, manual, or remote. $30 for t...
center channel and surround speakers/
I use Paradigm Reference CC and ADP and they work fine in my HT system.OTOH, is there a particular reason you wouldn't use Gallo all the way around?
