Tube base preamp suggestions
I have got to suggest the Audible Illusions L-2. It is one great sounding preamp. The circuit is so simple. No excess baggage. It does have home theater pass thru and AI is working on a phono board for it as I write this. Should be available soon....
Rega or VPI
At that price point on the VPI, I believe i would go with the Rega 25. The best deal in the VPI line is the Scout which lists for $1600 using the JMW9 tonearm. This is an excelent table and better than the Rega.
Rega or VPI
Which VPI are you considering?
Which Sony: SCD-1, XA777ES or XA9000ES?
I have heard all three of these players in my system. There's no doubt that the SCD-1 is better built. The problem is that better sound is in the ears of the beholder and the term best might not sound the best to you.I favored the xa777es over the...
Power cables, I need help
Do you ever notice how many suggestions you get on different power cables that have performed to someone's like in their on system. The rule of the day is try before you buy. Might save yourself a buck or two. Power cords are somewhat of a mystery...
Product Line Predictability
It costs too much to keep a lot of higher end product on the floor at most dealers. They prefer to keep lower priced products because overall, they will sell more of them. Higher end stuff sits a lot of times and is hard to move. It's not everyday...
Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss?
I have used tubes and solid state. I used a big Theta Dreadnaught for a while. But, the one I have found to give a natural, revealing sound without any of the transistor nasties is the Belles 350a. I have paired it with an Audible Illusions L-2. I...
Fastest high-current SS amp below $1000 used?
The McCormack's are fast amps but I agree with Timo, lot more to it than speed. For example, the Belles 150a Hotrod is not as quick as the McCormack but it is also fuller and richer sounding that makes music sound more like music. They're a lot of...
Power Cords - Shielding or No Shielding
Look at the news letters on the Bryston site about power cords. I have to agree, how can the last 6 or so feet provide anything after 50 or so feet of regular old wire from the breaker panel. Hell, I think we need to use gold plated contacts in th...
Speakers to Mate with McCormack?
I've owned both the Kestrel and Kestrel Hotrod. They are NOT in the same ball park with the Vandersteen 2CE Signature, I don't care what anybody says. At the price level of the Signature's, they're very few(if any) speakers as full range and as ac...
Best Budget Integrated Hands down
I have listened to the Bryston, the Audio Analogue, and the Audio Refinement Complete in my system at one time or another. All are decent enough amps. The Plinius and Classe are very good but kinda in opposite directions.Of the 3 above I have actu...
Adcom 555,B&k St 140, Mccormack .5 dna
There is no doubt about the Adcom driving a 4 ohm load. It will do so with ease. I don't know too many audiophiles that have not owned an Adcom at some point. I used a 555 way back when. The difference is in the sound. This is where the McCormack w...
floorstanding speakers for NAD C-320BEE amp
Find a nice used pair of NHT 2.5i's. Very lively sound with the NAD. Excellent bass. The NHT SB4 is also a good choice but I prefer the 2.5i. I like NHT because they seem to give you a lot for your money and are pretty much full frequency except f...
Adcom 555,B&k St 140, Mccormack .5 dna
The McCormack .5 with an Audible Illusions preamp. This will easily compete with the newer offerings from most companies. The other two amps are not in the same league.
The new Audible Illusions L-2, an improvement?
I don't understand the problems you are having. Both Jerry and Art have been most responsive to any inquiry I have ever had. I know they have production delays from time to time but I feel they are not willing to compromise the product by rushing ...
