What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
@tomic601 I build my own components so I can use any parts I want and have tried most of them. My DAC is a directed heated triode design with a 30lb separate power supply. My website is not complete but you can get some info on vujadeaudio.com The...
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
I thought the Vandersteen 5s I owned were really good (actually they are really good).  I visited a audio person this past weekend to hear the Vandersteen 7s using my DAC.  I was really taken back by how good the 7s sounded.  Anyone want to sell m...
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
Since I build a DAC and phono stage the phono beats the CD playback so far by far.  My DAC sounds better than most vinyl rigs in direct comparison so that should tell you something about the phono stage.  Happy Listening..
Stereo Amp
Buy an old Counterpoint power amp.  Send it to me to upgrade to the bi-polar transistors.  It will sound fantastic for a lot less dollars than the stuff mentioned here already.  Plus I can do an all out assault if you want to go there.  Even in st...
Budget phono stage under $100, cheap but refined, does it exist?
The chassis costs more than $100 to make!
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
My opinion the source has made the biggest improvement in my experience.  To me the source provides the overall sound quality, soundstage, dynamics micro/macro, separation of vocals and instruments, placement, dimension and most important to me is...
DAC chips
Are you building your own DAC?  If not then it comes down to how that DAC sounds in your system.  You just cannot go out an buy a DAC based on the chip.  I built a DAC with the Sabre chip.  It will sound nothing like any other DAC with the same ch...
Speakers with the most detailed midrange? (non-ESL/planar)
Alon V MKII speakers with the Alnico magnet was the most beautiful mid-range sound I ever heard.  Fast and musical.Happy Listening.
Some components too old now?
It not that costly to upgrade your components.  Amps usually have large capacitors with two leads on the top.  You can just match the values and swap them out  just measure the new caps and the clamps prior to ordering them.  Nichicon you can buy ...
DAC Repair
I am in New Jersey so you would have to ship them.
How good's your hearing
I would love anyone in the NYC area to bring over their class D amps to show me what I am missing.  PLEASE!   Recently had the NuForce amps in my system with upgraded 5V power supplies.  The owner was kind enough to stop by and let me hear them.  ...
Counterpoint SA-11 Manual
Faceplates are rare to find.  They can be made by your local metal manufacturer but I am not sure if you want to bother.  Remotes are even rarer to find.  I can repair and modify any audio component and work on Counterpoint components usually 3/4 ...
Are DAC's overpriced?
It all depends on what you want your system to sound like.  If you can use a soldering iron then change a few parts in your CD and pre and see what happens.  Most of the DACs I have heard in the $2K to $5K range really don't float my boat.  They v...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@akg_ca (1) Since everything in this crazy hobby is built to a level commensurate with its price-point, I have never yet seen ANY $2K DAC match -- much less "crush" -- a $10K-$12K DAC....full stop. And I’ve attended numerous audio fest paloozas wi...
Used Market Savings vs. The Dealer Experience
IMO please do not use a dealer if you plan on buying used gear.  TO me that is not a good way to be.  I do repair work for a few dealers and I still don't bother them to show me things unless I invite a bunch of people to their showroom, buy the p...
