Auction Art and Influence of Hip Hop
I grew up in the same time and same area. 98.7 KISS and 107.5 WBLS were my introduction to hip hop.  I can still hear Buffalo Gals playing on some tinny sounding car stereo system.

A lot of cool stuff on there. The Tupac "letter" starts at $100k! That fur probably cost more than the $10k starting bid when new. He was a big boy too so extra animals needed.
Looking for warm tube preamp (should pair well with Pass power amp), budget $6000
@smodtactical I've talked with Aric and emailed back and forth.  His stuff looks great and apparently sounds great but I can't get over what you said. Resale would be lucky to be 50% on a barley used piece. That's thousands of dollars in a matter ...
Low Level Listening and Distortion
@jjss49 Great post! "to me, good sound has a richness and texture and warmth to it, within which details can be heard". That says so much to me. Often times we can find richness, texture and warmth but at the expense of detail, or we find detail a...
Low Level Listening and Distortion
I had an Ayre AX-5 using it as an amp with their KX-R (non-Twenty version) and Salk Encore speakers that excelled at low level listening like nothing I've heard before. I don't think distortion came into play at all but the "blackness" of the Ayre...
Low Level Listening and Distortion
@bigtwin I enjoy music at low levels.  It's part of my weekend routine. Wake up early, go downstairs, throw on something I really want to hear and listen for a couple hours watching football/soccer on TV. I don't want to disturb anyone in the hous...
Low Level Listening and Distortion
Thanks for the response @atmasphere. They may vary in sound but their reputation is a fairly sterile, clean sound as opposed to a tube amp which has a reputation for distortion, no? Ralph, you were who I was thinking of when I started this thread....
Low Level Listening and Distortion
Interesting. That’s pretty much what I’m hearing. Do you think my theory about distortion could be the issue? Distortion may cause/trick our minds into thinking depth, three dimensionality, wide soundstage, etc. so the lack of distortion of these ...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ?
Thanks for the update! I've bought an amp from Safe and Sound before and had no issues. I don't think they would do anything nefarious at all. A distributor/manufacturer who often comments on these forums has good things to say about them also.  ...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ?
@bosssound Thanks for all your updates on your thread.  I really look forward to hearing about your DAC shootout in ATL. I wish I was a little closer than 805 miles. I've reached out to HiDEF Lifestyle to see if they have a demo on the floor of th...
GREAT NEWS! The Coda Technology new #16 amplifier will arrive this week
@lancelock I think that means it's most likely balanced but I would check with Coda to be 100% sure.
GREAT NEWS! The Coda Technology new #16 amplifier will arrive this week
@tmac1700, I would ask Coda as it's really important to know definitively.  Is there a switch on the back to choose RCA or XLR? If I remember correctly, someone on here with way more knowledge than most stated that. I welcome being corrected.
Moving from Harbeth m30.1 to m30.2 XD
I have the 30.1's and listen to the exact same music. Following to hear what others have to say.
Are there speakers that disappear regardless of the recording?
I think it depends on the recording as you've discovered. I find quite a few old jazz recordings are almost entirely split left and right so the only center "fill" you have is less directional sound like drums.
Audio Research I/50
I assume they were trying to hit the $5k price point and auto bias would add a couple hundred? Maybe it really only needs biasing if you use different tubes and this isn't a product they expected tube rollers to buy? Metro hipsters may be more apt...
