spend on the streamer or on the DAC ?
@deep_333 How do you get the signal "converted" from your NAS so your DAC can receive and understand it? If the network server is isolated in a different room I believe you shouldn't run a long USB cord or coax so how does the signal get to the DA...
To Roon or not
I've used Roon for 2 years and think it's ok at best. Their support is horrible. You have to post on some forum and hope someone gets back to you. For $120 a year you should get phone support. If their product is so bad that they don't have enough...
Are there any bookshelf speakers that sound good on a bookshelf?
Vandersteen VLR as mentioned above.  They also make a CT version that has a carbon tweeter similar to their high end models.
You can Vote for Most Valuable Lead Vocals (Rock Groups)
Jerry Garcia...No way they become what they did without Jerry.
~$15K floorstanders: opinions sought
Look at T+A Talis S300. They look great and sound incredible. They only come in silver or black brushed aluminum. Huge, open sound like I've rarely heard. Vandersteen Quad or Treo would be my other suggestions for speakers that fit into a multi-us...
Power amp recommendation for Harbeth 30.2s
I have 30.1s and have used quite a few amps with them and never thought they ran out of juice.  I used to use them with Quicksilver 40 watt monoblocks. I now use a Yamaha AS2100. Both sounded great.  I'm not sure you could make them sound bad. Dyn...
Main Audiogon site barely works?
I've seen no new ads over the past day or so. I just went nuts thinking my refresh stopped working and went down a rabbit hole trying to find out how to "hard refresh" Chrome on a Mac.
Minimonitors
Since you liked the Harbeths I would try the 30.1 or 30.2. I preferred them to the SHL5. The suggestion above of the P3 could also work if you added a sub seeing as the low end was the problem. I don't notice any issues with the low end in my 30.1...
Opportunity 105 US model, Can I use it in Europe? Czech Republic?
There's a switch on the back. I bought my 105D when I lived in Europe and then moved to the US and changed the voltage switch. No problems. Tidal works fine. A few native apps (mine has UK specific apps like BBC) may not work but I always found th...
Which Harbeth would work in my room?
The only thing I have to add here is I found the SHL5 quite different from the 30.1 so please listen to both. It's not the same presentation. I found the SHL5 to be less dynamic than the 30.1. I listened in 2 different rooms and 2 different system...
Reimer Wind River GSs
I've only heard the McCullough GS but can say Rick Reimer knows what he is doing. Call Rick himself. His number is on the website. He's interesting to talk to and you may learn something. The one thing you will realize is he's passionate about spe...
Best CD Player for 800-1500 Used
Tvad, Best Buy has them for $49.95...check their website.
Ayre CX-7 vs. Meridian G08 ?
Cjlundgren...I used to listen to Meridian CD players at my dealer extensively and for some reason almost every remote in the store would control them. I'm not talking the "play" button on the Sim remote would play the Merdian, I'm talking the "pla...
VR-4jr or Gallo Nucleus Reference 3
The Gallos at 50 hours are not even close to broken in. Also, to comment on jdm61's remark above on the $900 amp and a $2500 speaker...it is a sub amp, not an amp for the entire speaker. How much do you think the amp costs in a REL sub? How about ...
Players made in U.S.A.?
If I'm not mistaken, the lower-end Cary players are made in Asia. Only the top-end in Made in the USA.
