Need recommendations for a streamer
Anyone still using (still available?) an Elac, Discovery? I use mine hardwired to a Mac AirPort Express wirelessly connected to another AirPort that's hardwired to my router. Have a BNC to RCA Coax connection (various better cables) to a Line Magn...
Finally made the transition to a tube preamp!
I started with a tube linestage, Sonic Frontiers SFL-1... I was hooked. The sound was so much more than my SS preamp had offered. I moved to a Manley, Shrimp that I just recently sold. I loved that piece and thought it was a super match with my Qu...
Has anyone had on of these CD players? How good are they?
Have experience with the Sony, CDP-608ESD and it’s a wonderful deck; found it compared favorably or totally surpassed the performance of several Simaudio, Theta, Rega decks. Looks wonderful too with its walnut sides. Don’t shy away from vintage pi...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
These nights are becoming few and far between. Streaming mostly but every now and then, when time (and energy) permits,... so have a son living in LA who's in the music business. Last time I was out there he turned me on to Cali Creamin' a blond b...
Which would you choose for good sounding tube preamp for an audiophile new to tubes.
This is an easy one for me,... I had a SFL-1 for many years. It's a wonderful lineatage that mated & player extremely well with w/pretty much every amp I threw at it. I ran TAD, Hibachi monos, Perreaux & Classe' amps & it was (is) a ve...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
How bout Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift's, "1989" albumin its entirety - guilty pleasure that TS (I mean talent is talent). He does a great job with that LP front to back; it's pretty fun!
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
Couple more,... Fugees doing Roberta Flack’s "Killing Me Softly" Lauren Hill is amazing, Black Crowes doing John Lennon’s "Jealous Guy" & Vanessa Fernandez doing Curtis Mayfield’s "Here But I’m Gone" - soooo many great covers. Again, not bette...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
Geez,... so many great covers but I do agree with the original always being, well, the original! Chris Cornell doing Zep's "Thank You" is so good, I think Holly Cole does a great job with Elvis Costello's "Allison", there's also a great cover of Z...
Speakers known for great midrange.
Have had the pleasure of listening to Quad, ESL-57s completely rebuilt and brought back to spec by the besy Quad guy on the East Coast, (NH guy). They're  truly magical and will own my own set soon enough. I agree with the "better" British boxes. ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
These LP sessions are getting more and more rare... streaming so much lately but in a post NY Rangers loss last night, I needed to wind down. Beck, "Morning Phase" Terry Reid, "Superlungs" (amazing voice) & then streamed Sturgill Simpson, "A S...
Need some Cart recommendations, $300 - $700 (New/Used) range…warm, full, yet great def.
Geez sooooo many options. I find the Rega, "Exact" to be a HUGE value and was surprisingly really terrific on a vintage Thorens, 160. Also have a Van den Hul, "MC One" on my Luxman table. It's amazing too but will take more than your budget allows...
Looking for a change.
Have a set of Cremona Auditor M - they are special as many Audiogoners have attested to all over this forum. Play mine now in a Cary - Manley - Line Magnetic - Auralic streaming system. Have also experienced Cremona M floorstanders at length in an...
Large speaker recommendation
20'x15'x9' isn't really a big room, or is it? I'd say a set of KEF, Reference, 5 Meta or Dynaudio, Confidence 30. Have heard both in a similar (a bit bigger) sized rooms and both are truly wonderful. Played with Octave, Canor & Classe' Sigma e...
Inexpensive Good Vintage Turntables?
I use a Luxman, PD-121 w/ADC, LMF-1 arm & Rega, Exact & Van den Hull, The One carts. Have to say, I prefer this vintage deck to every Thorens, 160 & AR, The TT I've used over the years. Simplistic design & directness of purpose. Te...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Ah, the sounds of youth... must have burned through 3 cassettes of "Live Bootleg". Would pump it hard through the Concord/Jensen setup in my '75 Blazer. What a battleship - couldn't park it anywhere in Boston. Lord of the Thighs was my personal fa...
