If there was only ONE album/cd/release you can listen to, over and over............. +1 for Ziggy but for me it's Jeff Buckley, "Grace" (Bowie on the record wishing he'd wrote this album) and as a dark horse, Big Star, "Live At Lafayette's Music Room". Just amazing power pop that influenced literally hiundreds of bands. That music...
Only two tracks to test your system, forever! Derrin Nauenforf, "Ghost Town" Live At The Boardwalk and JJ Grey & MoFro, "Lochloosa" Brighter Days. Those are my go-to tracks. Honorable Mention: David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust "Soul Love"
Car songs Big Star, "Back of a Car" - great memories of that one. Golden Earing, "Radar Love" & The Knack, "My Sharona" - so many!
Tube preamp options I use an Aesthetix, Calypso Signature w/Amperex, Tungsram & Telefunken 12AX7 & 6922 tubes and it's about as good as it gets. Not sure where I'd go from here without dropping $12-$15K. Aesthetix = HQ - tubes making a huge difference in this...
In praise of the duet. Nils Lofgren did an album in the mid 90s called "Every Breath" - it's all duets. Particularly fine are his tunes w/Bonnie Sheridan. I also like Richard & Linda Thompson, "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" from '74 - inexplicable that I...
Whats on your turntable tonight? JJ Cale & Eric Clapton, "Road to Escondido" - Wilco, "Being There" - Shawn Mullins, "Soul’s Core" - very chill session sorting some new (to me) Bugle Boy and Amperex 6922 tubes. Both sets very nice in my Calypso!
Sad songs- We love them- We need them "No Hard Feelings" - Avett Brothers, "Children of Children" - Jason Isbell, "Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley, "Handbags and Gladrags" - Stereophonics. Each for various reasons make me a bit melancholy.
Bookshelf speakers that renders 3D soundstage OP said under $2K,... not sure the Focals can be had for that but if so, hard yes! The best I've found are ProAc, Tablette. There are many incarnations under $2K maybe even a gently used set of Tablette 10. The search stops here, literally throw a...
Wondering... Yeah, my intention wasn't to get into a parallel spending situation. I don't believe that's a valid formula. But having said that, I do have about the same money invested in my TT/phono pre as I do my DAC/streamer. Interesting how that manifested ...
What’s your latest high-end audio purchase? So don't really consider myself a tube roller. Never fuss with my tube amp - new stock Genelex GLs in the KT88 and EL84 slots. They are tried and true. I have a tube DAC as well and want to play around with that at some point. See where the 12au7/...
What’s your latest high-end audio purchase? @jjss49 so I purchased them locally from the audio estate of one of the most knowledgeable and respected tube-gear lovers I'd ever met. I've had them in a box with other tubes from his estate for over a year and never had the time to dig in and se...
What’s your latest high-end audio purchase? Ok so just came across some incredible Tungsram, NOS 12ax7/ecc83 that might not be high-end, but that make my high-end lineatage play like I've never experienced before. Have run through, Sovtek, Mullard, Telefunken, Genalex and now these Tungsram...
Where did you buy your first audio gear? Went to college in 1980 with a suitcase, hockey bag, 4 sticks & a clock radio - everyone had Marantz this, Pioneer that, AR, Advent & Kenwood... I was so envious of these other kids and their setups. Fast forward 2yrs. I left school for op...
Couple of Line Conditioners... TY boys... so I had a Silver Circle, JuiceBox that I liked. I grabbed these PS Audio UOs to sort of replace that piece. I liked the Welborne better than the JB so sold it off. Will give these UOs a bit more time - see what happens. |
