Bill Chinook / Bruce Springsteen
Cleeds---Au contraire! Lots of Rock 'n' Roll swings, even The Beatles. Ringo is known to swing pretty well; listen to "Kansas City". Rock 'n' Roll drumming was created by New Orleans drummer Earl Palmer, one of Max Weinberg's (Bruce's drummer) her...
Best band never to release a truly great album?
Under their own name, it has to be Little Village. Though they are on record in VERY fine form (first heard on John Hiatt's Bring The Family album), they recorded and released only one album under their own name, and it's not good. The rule going ...
Bill Chinook / Bruce Springsteen
Jafant, I hadn't heard that about Bruce, but Neil Young being a Reagan Democrat is well known.
Worst record ever?
Amongst Rock 'n' Roll historians there is an album considered the "Plan 9 From Outer Space" of albums: "Philosophy Of The World" by The Shaggs. Recorded by the three Wiggins sisters of New Hampshire in 1968, it is a real trip. Two of the guys in N...
Worst record ever?
Ha! Ry Cooder is really serious about how his guitar sounds. When he heard about a new way of recording (digital), he wanted at it, and as Geoff said did the first digitally recorded Pop album, Bop ’Til You Drop. When he heard the playback his rea...

Tinnitus worries...
Great, caffeine and alcohol, the only things I drink.
Top Five rock Bass players
Yup tostado, Brian wrote the notes on paper, but bringing them to life is also part of a bassists job, which Carol did excellently. Plus, I have no doubt she made a few suggestions Brian approved.Rick Danko was sixth on my list! His playing on a f...
When will there be decent classical music recordings?
A hearty seconding of rcprince's recommendation of the Harmonia Mundi label recordings. Great sound, great repertoire, great artists and performances. My favorite contemporary Classical label, by far.
Songs that have stood the test of time.
"Hallelujah"---great choice! I heard Leonard do it live in concert (if you have a chance to see him live, do not miss it!), but my favorite version remains the one by Rufus Wainwright. Transplendent ;-) !
Bill Chinook / Bruce Springsteen
Bravo to everyone's civilized comments. My problem with "Born In The U.S.A." is it's obviousness and literalness, a failing of Springsteen in general imo. That and his "tightly-wound"/strained/1-dimensional vocals. I have never understood his mass...
Top Five rock Bass players
Man have you guys got it wrong ;-).1- Willie Dixon. He not only invented Rock 'n' Roll bass playing, he wrote many of it's early songs. Played with Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, and Muddy Waters.2- James Jamerson. Motown's bassist, and Paul McCartney...
When will there be decent classical music recordings?
One little-mentioned label that offered Classical music with a very "immediate" sound that included low-level instrument sounds was Ark Records (LP only), Robert Fulton's (70's speaker designer) label. REALLY good sounding recordings, like direct-...
Turntable Platter Demagnetizing
True Geoff, one exception being the original (not the Mk.2 version, however) Thorens TD-124, which has a ferrous sub-platter, making it unsuitable for use with Decca/London cartridges.
best phono stage to mate with a London Decca Super Gold cart?
Excellent Norm! Let us now how you like it, ay?
