What are the best subwoofers to use with Magnepan 20.1s? +1. Well said johnny, agree 100%. That continuously variable phase control is absolutely mandatory in a sub; the Rythmik plate amps have one as well. That, added to the Open Baffle/Dipole design of the GR Research/Rythmik Sub makes it a particular...
FR64s & Orsonic Av-1s Effective mass ? An alternative way to get damping for the arm and/or Decca is to mount them on a Townshend Rock turntable, which has a damping trough at the headshell end of the arm. The Townshend damping system also reduces the Q of the arm/cartridge resonance.

What are the best subwoofers to use with Magnepan 20.1s? If you have a big enough room, there is nothing like a pair of Tympani panels, the T-IV or IVa. Make sure they have been to Magnepan to have their wires re-glued.
suggestions on upgrading my system The SB13 Ultra is a real good sub. It's competition is the Rythmik F15HP.

( Vinyl) Your latest purchase and where? Slaw, that Them album is great! I saw Them in ’66, and they were really good live too. I don’t have the Remains LP, but I’ve heard some of their stuff, and know they were the opening act for The Beatles on their East Coast dates in ’66. Sundazed i...
What's going on with the audio market? whart and fourwnds, great posts, all true. The people I see all around me are so distracted, thumbing on their smart phones while doing everything else, even in a movie theater! Sensory overload. Short attention spans, a general sense of anxiety, ...
Bass traps - too many choices!! Just be aware that the efficiency of traps at absorbing bass frequencies is very low; it takes a lot of them, and the larger in diameter they are the lower in frequency are they effective to. I’m investigating the cost to build a room within a roo...

He now offers a version made to Barry Diament’s specs: a highly-polished single cup made of 7075 aluminum, with a large diameter, shallow bowl (the result of machining the shape of the bowl ...
Bass traps - too many choices!! Sand?! Sand is pretty good at absorbing physical vibrations, but not acoustical ones. Honest! There are diagrams on the net of how to build a bass trap. Get yourself some chicken wire (not a solid cardboard tube---the sound has to be able to get i...
What's going on with the audio market? Real Hi-Fi has always been the providence of a discriminating extreme minority. When I discovered it (via, once again, my friend Pete C.), no one else I knew cared; but then, they were for the most part musician’s, the least caring of all, general...
Obscure bands Straitjackets bassist Pete Curry was the leader/guitarist/songwriter in The Halibuts, and LS record in his home studio, a pretty nice one with a 2" 3M recorder, Manley tube mic pre-amp, and Neuman, Sennheiser, and AKG mics. Pete and I grew up toge...
Bass traps - too many choices!! Everybody claims their acoustical product is a bass trap; It ain’t true. Room tunes is just cloth-covered fiberglass, a joke at the prices Michael asks for them. I still have some. Owens Corning 703 Semi-Rigid panels are far better for eliminating... |
