Sources for information and/or advice on dedicated AC lines desired
Well, I have looked into the matter of AC outlets, and I do believe I'll pay to find out if my natural inclination towards needing to see a technical rational for a supposed source of sound difference is too strict. I'll get a Furutech GTX-D(R) an...
The Hub: QUAD ESL-57, Some good things last a lifetime.
Ric Schultz said the same thing to me, twenty years ago. Now, at my age, with my time left, I may no longer need to be concerned with it ;-). Plus, now out of the damn desert, my dust situation is a thing of the past. I may just cut the darn thing...
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin?
"Should" not depend on style of music is right, theoretically. But in practice, since all turntables have failings in different ways, ways that are related to certain aspects of music and/or sound, it may be advisable to find a table that least ha...
Obscure bands
I guess I define obscure differently than some others. Commander Cody obscure? He had a giant hit record, fer Chr@st's sake! No, "kids" today haven't heard of them, but what have they heard of older than their current pair of Chuck Taylor's?I gues...
Guy Clark has passed away
We’re losing them just about every week now. Dylan could drop dead tonight. The end of the line for my generation is at long last rapidly approaching. My brother-in-law was diagnosed last week with 4th-stage liver cancer, no treatment possible, si...
Which is the Better Tonearm - Pro-Ject or Rega?
You didn't ask, but I can tell you what makes the Audiomods arm so good (especially for the price). Jeff installs internal arm tube stiffeners to get rid of the resonance peaks of the tube of the best Rega arm, also drilling small holes in it in a...

I play mine with the front AND back grills off, and up in Arcici stands. The Mye stands look even better, but I need to get Grant’s Tympani stands first. By the way, Crosby, the guy who offered a good mod for the Quad 63, made a run of replacement...

Like solar panels? Great, now that I've moved to the dark, cloudy Pacific NW!
Diffuse Front Wall? Absorb rear wall?
ASC makes a model called the Martix Panel, designed for the wall behind the listening position, if the listener's head is within two feet of that wall. It provides a mix of absorption and diffusion, so as to not make for too dead a sound. Maggie o...

Welcome back, audiomagnate! For vocals and small scale acoustic music (Baroque, Chamber, Folk, Bluegrass) the original Quad is still unequalled. Like you, I have other speakers for other music, but will never be without a pair of Quads.

I think most people would be considering installing a new sub-panel, being fed from the main panel and dedicated to the system room, not a new, separate service line from the street to a new, second main panel. With the sub-panel, no new grounding...

euchlerera---I too had thought that was something that might be done, but in reading the various threads I was referred to here (thanks again guys!), I learned that it absolutely should NOT be done, and is illegal anyway! The grounding arrangement...
Which is the Better Tonearm - Pro-Ject or Rega?
The Audiomods Classic (which uses the Rega 303 arm tube) is better than either. A UK arm handmade by a designer and master machinist, whose website will tell you all about the design.
Critical listening or a reason to keep tinkering?
Spend more on your music library than your system.
Thorens TD 125 MK II with TP 16 tonearm - What's it worth?
Make sure the 125 doesn't have a problem in it's electronics. It's a somewhat complicated and finicky design, and I and others have had the electronics malfunction, a problem whose source is very hard to identify. Three trips to the repair shop wi...
