Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
Thanks a million Spencer. Yeah, I've seen Ethan, an objectivist, and some subjectivists get into squabbles on other sites. He's a "If you can't prove it with measurements, it doesn't exist" kinda guy. That's fine with me when it comes to acoustics...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
The amroc program is exactly where I learned of all the modes/nodes in a room! What a great aid in understanding what's going on in any size room, and where acoustic treatment will give the most results. I hadn't seen Ethan Winers article, so than...
New Ikea storage unit great for LP's!
I have only a few special boxsets taller than 12-7/8", the interior height of the EKET. Anyone contemplating purchasing them can measure their LP’s to see if 12-7/8" will do. As for weight capacity, the EKET seems sturdier to me than does the Kall...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
All good points, guys. My desire to get some absorption of lower frequencies at the listening position originates from having read that bass modes/nodes build up at not just room corners (though that is where they are most prominent), nor not just...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
I was back near the same Home Depot today with a little time on my hands. I went in and looked for the Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound myself this time, and found it right on the shelf. S’n’S is 3" thick, and soft and loose, very limp, not at all like the OC...

Also, the Ikea Bitrade is larger than the EKET, at 28-3/8" top-to-bottom and side-to-side, and 15-3/8" deep. It also cheaper than the EKET, at $24.99, but available only in white.
Add a Subwoofer to my Vandersteen 1ce s or replace with Revel Concerta2 F36
Voodooman, if you like your 1ce's, replacing them with the Vandersteen 2 seems like a good idea. They may be better overall than the 1ce with a sub. The Model 2 with subs even better! When Brooks was alive and a Vandersteen dealer he sold a lot of...
New to forum and Vinyl
If you want to stay with a vintage table, the AR (Acoustic Research) XA would be great choice, as long as the cartridge you mount on it is shielded. The AR has an unshielded motor, and you will get hum out of the table with an unshielded cartridge...
New Ikea storage unit great for LP's!
g-klaven, the 13" interior dimensions (height, width, depth) of the compartments in the EKET is perfect for LP's imo. With the front of each LP about 3/4" from the front of the EKET, and the top of each LP about 3/4" from the shelf above it, it is...
New Ikea storage unit great for LP's!
jt, take a look at the listing of the double EKET on the IKEA site. It is two of the 4-compartment models side-by-side, with a long underframe under each unit. IKEA sells that combination (two 4-compartment EKET's, two long underframes) as a separ...
New Ikea storage unit great for LP's!
jt, I’m getting six of the 4-compartment 27-1/2" x 27-1/2" x 13-3/4" EKET’s, stacking them three high as two separate racks (a 12-pack of connecting hardware is available for securing multiple EKET’s to each other for stability, a real good idea)....
Building an all analog system around Magnepan .7 for 4K and under
Unless you already have the Maggie .7’s, for a room the size of yours I would reconsider getting them. They need to be a minimum of 3’ from the wall behind them, 5’ being much better. A 12’ x 11’ room is really too small for Maggies, unfortunately...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
Thanks Spencer. I had a session today, and the studio owner had real good acoustical treatment of his walls---a mixture of RPG diffusors and absorbers. I have a couple of spare 9" x 3' ASC tube traps---maybe I'll put them right behind the listenin...
Fidelity Research FR-64 vs. FR-54
Great post Lew. You may likely already know this, but Roger Modjeski, the designer of the direct-coupled amp used in the Beveridge, is now making his own direct-coupled ESL at Music Reference, with a sub for the bottom two octaves. I'm dying to he...
Your Favorite Cover Songs?
Yeah, great one Slaw. My all-time favorite has gotta be "I hear You Knockin" by Dave Edmunds. The original was by Smiley Lewis, though Fats Domino also did it. Edmunds' guitar solo in his version is absolutely killer---he creates the greatest tens...
