Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations? Thanks fellas. I figured out what I did wrong on the calculator, and with the help of Danny Richie at GR Research got the correct figures. 100k and 80Hz requires .02uF, 30k and 175Hz .03uF. But caps aren't made in those exact values, .022 and .033...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍 @nandric, the "they" I was referring to were the Londons and Deccas, not all cantileverless pickups. What I really lust for is a Tzar DST1 ;-) .
Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations? Yep @pragmasi, line level. So I was by off by x1000?! I gotta figure out what I misunderstood on the cap value calculator. Thanks for the info.
Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations? The filters are not for tweeters, they’re for high-passing main speakers, the lower frequencies going to subs with their own filters and amps. I guess I assumed the mention of mounting the caps on the amp’s input jacks would imply that. I’ve done ...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍 There's no cantilever like.....no cantilever. London's and Decca's are free of what Gordon Holt called "cantilever haze." Of course, they have other failings.
Whats on your turntable tonight? @tomic601, I understand. Part of Gram's legendary status is the mythology. I've always thought his GP album was over-rated (the songs are pretty good, but his singing often just slightly flat). His follow-up album, Grievous Angel, is imo much bett...
Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations? Did I use the wrong abbreviation? The 19.9uF (microfarads) is for 80Hz into 100k ohms, the 30.33uF for 175Hz into 30k. I used the calculator on the learningaboutelectronics.com site to get those cap values.
Output Impedance and Speaker Impedance Roger Modjeski is an outside-the-box designer, his RM-200 an example of his originality. He bristles a little at the amp being called a hybrid, but yes, it does not have a tube input stage (the driver and output stages are pure tube, however). But...
Has anyone done any business with Quads Unlimited lately??? Word is Wayne is in very poor health. Kent McCollum at Electrostatic Solutions is THE Quad guy now.
Vandersteen's new affordable mono blocks at the CES 18 Ah, @tomic601, one of the Buddy Miller albums issued on LP by Bear Family? Bear Family is a great German label, known for their very high quality Roots music releases on both LP and CD---1950's Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly, Country & Western, Hil...
Output Impedance and Speaker Impedance @ubbcbus, the MR amps are all tube designs, and they, like almost all tube amps, produce different amounts of power at different impedances (and to the amp's different binding posts). McIntosh amps, having autoformers, are the rare exception.Almos...
Tell us about your acoustic treatments Though perhaps too late for the op (and most of us who are unable to build a room from the ground up), the wall system offered by Acoustic Sciences Corp. is incredible. It wasn’t until I heard a room (that of Audiogon member folkfreak) built using...
Output Impedance and Speaker Impedance The output impedance of the power amp (more commonly referred to as damping factor)/loudspeaker "modulus" of impedance relationship is one of the most consequential in all of hi-fi (along with loudspeaker/room interaction, pre-amp output impedance...
Drum throne suggestions I have a backrest for my Rok-n-Soc, but one has to be sitting very upright for it to be of any use. One thing it IS good for is preventing one from falling backwards off the throne at the end of a long night of drinking while drumming ;-) .
The sonic rightness of a mono system. I long ago learned that I prefer music reproduced by drivers having large radiating surfaces (ESL’s, magnetic-planars) rather than comparatively-small direct radiators (domes, 3"-5" cones), and that I prefer line-sources to point-sources. Small dr... |
