Improving tweeter clarity. Felt.
John Bau installed a thick felt blanket on the baffle of his Spica loudspeakers, primarily to prevent diffraction of the tweeter output off the outside edges of the baffle.
Replacing the binding posts at Magnepan 1,7i
The holes are SO close to being big enough for the Cardas posts (the holes are just a hair too small) that a small round hand file run around the hole perimeters for a few minutes will take off enough metal. I enlarged the holes in the plates of m...
Budget Tube Amp (newbie)
I recently received a few emails from Roger Modjeski about his RM-10 tube amp. Both the original and Mk.2 versions of the amp are rated at 35 watts/ch, but the first 15 of those watts are produced with the amp operating in Class A. The current ver...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
The OB/Dipole woofer system seen in the GT Audioworks are made by GR Research/Rythmik, and feature the Rythmik servo-feedback operation. They are available separately by both those companies (as a DIY kit only), and can be added to any loudspeaker...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
A 2nd on @mcreyn's suggestion of GR Research. Danny Richie's speakers are sold as kits only, but there is a cabinet maker on the GRR Audiocircle Forum who builds them at a very reasonable price. Giant Killers!
Do any of these interest you at all? (If you had the money)(Which I don't)
Conspicuously missing are the Magnepan 30.7 and the real big SoundLab ESL's.
First order/Time Phase-Coherent speakers discussions
Unfortunately, a full-range driver has yet to be invented! Big ESL’s are close, though. The best we can do for now is use two or three drivers integrated with filters designed to make them behave as one.Danny Richie has designed loudspeakers in wh...

Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - 50th Anniversary just released on MQA - Tidal HiFi
For a glimpse into the making of Let It Bleed, read the Rolling Stone interview with Ry Cooder sometime after the album’s release. Mick & Keith flew Ry in from California, and his account of the recordings he made with "them" (you’ll have to r...
Klipsch speaker choices
While the ringing of the metal that horns are most-often made of (there are a few guys making them out of wood) is what any coloration heard from them is attributed to, the dimensions of the horn itself is more responsible for the coloration. It's...
So many great golden era DD tables out there, what do you recommend for $1000?
Having three turntables (or five) is, you know, fun. It's like having three girlfriends ;-) .
The 5 stages of making a bad audio purchase
In the mid-2000's I met the dealer who was supplying Dylan with his smoke (he had a home-delivery business). At that time Bob liked Goofy Grape ;-) .
First order/Time Phase-Coherent speakers discussions
As Danny Richie (GR Research) explains in his series of excellent You Tube videos on the subject of loudspeaker design, cross-over design is a matter of getting the individual drivers to coalesce. He uses the waterfall plot as his number one desig...
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
It all comes back to the recording, and the disc. Ya know, there ARE plenty of bad sounding LP’s. Besides, if an album is available on CD only, what are ya gonna do, deprive yourself of the music just because you think analog sounds better than di...
List of most high end analog active crossovers ever made.
Lew, I think Roger Modjeski (who designed the electronics for Beveridge) has an updated/improved x/o for the 2SW, as well as a new dedicated direct-drive tube amp for the speaker.I had the Dahlquitst DQ-LP1 for years, selling it only after I got a...
