Shorting Plugs and Non-shorting Plugs - Wothwhile?
The short answer is it is worth the effort IMO, though don't expect magic.I had some serious background noise some time ago and tried shorting plugs (home made) to try to solve it. I found it helped very little, though did seem to help some. I als...
Rega HAL + EXON manual?
hmm . . . I'm not familiar with how the Exon amps connect to the Hal. Doesn't the Exon have an XLR input? I drove a standard unbalanced amp with my Hal by using a standard XLR cable, with a pig-tail that I made to attach to it splitting it into 2 ...
Rega HAL + EXON manual?
Hal's are pretty rare, though I think they're a great preamp. I sent you an email regarding info I received from Rega. I sold my Hal and the manual went with it. The buyer was an Agon member so maybe he'll see this and help you by sending you a sc...
Need budget HT Receiver with extreme convenience
thanks guys. I'm looking into the Yamaha 663 - it looks like it may be what I want.
where to get shorting plugs?
I did as Jgiacalo described. Chopped the cable off leaving about 1/2", stripped the insulation and twisted the wires together. I didn't bother covering them with tape, I just twisted the exposed wires into a little pigtail real tight to the cap. Y...
Tonearm for rega Planar 3
I have a Roksan Tabriz Zi, and a Clearaudio Satisfy arm which are both Rega geometry. I like them both better than the Rega (which I once had). They are more user friendly and adjustable (which was my primary issue with the Rega). I have them moun...
Inexpensive Cork Room Treatments
well played Albertporter!
Clearaudio Emotion lacks dynamics
Roblanger's instructions are correct - the VTA is very easy to adjust. While I don't have the Emotion TT, I do have a Satisfy arm which is the same. The VTA set screw on the Emotion is in the plinth. You need a wrench (I assume a hex key) or screw...
Using McCormack DNA-0.5 Deluxe as Mono Amps
I've been running the passive vertical biamp arrangement Steve describes for a couple of years now and have had great results (I'm using Electron Kinetics Eagle 4 amps, not DNA 0.5). I considered converting them to monoblock but after asking the s...
b&k amps
I'm not familiar with the 200.1's but would expect them to rate well. I've had many of the older B&K units and a few of the newer ones (early 2000's) and like all of them. I still have a pair of M200 Sonatas and haven't found anything as good ...
Weird Speaker Placement Configurations
I have 2 rooms set up with a diagonal placement and it's worked out fantastic. If you check my system page you can see one of my rooms with speakers set on about a 20% plane to the back wall. I recently set up a small room system (in my son's form...
Totem Arros and 40 watts.
Sttafs are 8 ohms, and a couple hundred $ more than the arros.
Totem Arros and 40 watts.
Not the Arros, but I'm powering Sttafs with a TAD 60 amp set in Triode mode which is ~30 w/c. It's plenty of power. My room is 12x12 though. In a room 15x20 the Arros will get lost unless you have a Sub.

Install IEC male socket or not??
a slightly more attractive alternative is to get one of these. I have used these in a few situations but don't like the pig tale dangling. They can be as effective as a flush mount IEC though, and super easy to install. Parts Connexion use to stoc...
