Linn Basic LVX or Rega RB300 ?
I would sell the Rega and the Basik and get an Ittok. That's the arm you want on the LP12.
Home theater pass-through unnecessary?
Yeah, but what if you mistakenly switch inputs before lowering the volume on the pramp? Not an issue. As Reubent says, you simply pick a ref point on your preamp that won't blow the doors off if another source is used.
Jennifer Warnes 20th Ann Famous Blue Raincoat RI
it's interesting, and surprising to me that this post brought out such strong contrary opinion. Everything is being reissued these days, and everyone does interviews on obscure "art" radio stations. As for this album being an "audiophile" recordin...
Home theater pass-through unnecessary?
I've done it that way and it worked as well (to my ears) as it does with passthru (I have 2 preamps - 1 with, 1 without). As for remote control, I couldn't live without one of those.

I expected this may appeal to JW fans (which I believe there are a number of on this site based on prior dialog). I wanted a good CD of this album because my original CD copy is poorly mastered and leaves a lot to be desired. I also have it on vin...
Jeff Beck "performing this week" OMG
thanks Jim. I order it on your recommendation - got it yesterday. I like it!! Looking forward to the DVD . . .
Rebuilding LP12; which tone arm
if it were me, I would install an Ittok LVII (or LVIII if you can find one) if I couldn't find an Ekos in my budget. It doesn't seem right putting a Rega arm on a LP12. Besides, even with rewiring, and a heavyweight and VTA, I preferred the Ittok....
Convert a Dynaco ST-70 into a guitar amp?
I've been playing around converting old tube gear to guitar amps for a little over a year and am hardly an authority, but here's my 2 cents anyway. 1) I think you'll be disappointed in the sound using your KEF drivers unless they truely produce th...
Bi-amp vs. Mono
check out this thread for a discussion of mono vs horizontal and vertical biamping with some expert input.
anyone else hate locking RCAs?
I agree too, though some brands are better than others. I have some that work fine. The other problem is they are all too bulky - even the ones that lock/unlock with ease. On a crowded preamp back panel this is another challenge when swapping gear.
David Byrne & Brian Eno
I pretty much like everything Eno. I like "My Life In the Bush of Ghosts' but it's not my favorite. I favor "Another Green World" and his other mellower efforts. "Drawn from Life" by Eno and Peter Schwalm is one of the best recordings ever IMO. If...
Using two center channel LCR speakers for stereo
I've heard 2 Von Schweikert LCR-15's used this way and they sounded fantastic. I know Totem also markets their Model 1c for use this way.
how good is an akai ap006 turntable?
I'm not at all familiar with the table, but Akai made some decent analogue tape equipment in their day. You may want to post this over at Vinyl Asylum or Vinyl Engine - there are many more vintage geeks over there. Based on your description I woul...
Rega HAL + EXON manual?
Why REGA chose to take perfectly standardized XLR cables and twist them that way, instead of using standard RCA plugs and cables I don't know. Perhaps they saw this as an opportunity to sell their own "proprietary" cables? ;-)their explanation to ...
lots of channels: biamp or no?
I agree with Chadnliz. mixing the 2 amps is likely to muddy your performance best case. The ONLY time I have had better results with passive biamping was using identical amps, and one amp per speaker (ie one stereo amp, Ch driving low, ch b drivin...
