Fuse Direction for Pass Labs Amp and Preamp
@tyray  No, I haven't talked myself out of trying fuses, I just haven't talked myself into trying them.  Partly because the four ARC amps I use to power my tri-amped system have seven fuses each.  So, that's 28 fuses just in the amps. And then an...
Fuse Direction for Pass Labs Amp and Preamp
I have not tried any boutique fuses, don't know if they make a difference or not. But I would really like to hear from the 'philes that have heard differences, in particular what are these differences?  I honestly don't think my ears are up to th...
Do you spend more time analyzing the sound of your system, worrying it could be better?
+1 @hilde45
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers?
I'm in the speakers first camp, although I would caution that you need to listen to your choice in different places with different electronics.  Over spend on speakers you love and they will pay you back day after day.  Electronics can be upgraded...
No love for Legacy Audio
I'm actually surprised that so many 'gonrs are exclaiming that these speakers are SO BIG! The best speakers I have heard are almost always quite large. This includes many types.  Maybe its a psychological bent that bigger is better, but I don't b...
Sometimes you have to change you
I have experienced this many times over the years.  It usually centers around pace rather than tonality, timbre etc. My remedy is to set the volume at zero and then put a 78 on my 1917 Victrola and crank it and listen to a few minutes (one side)....
2nd systems- who’s got one?
4.....Main system in music room. HT in living room. Garage system. System in pantry for kitchen and library which feeds B&W in-ceiling speakers in both those rooms (you would probably be surprised how good it sounds, I am). Regards, barts
Best cable for record cleaner, ever
Bought a Tesla Power Wall and solar panels to use as a dedicated source for my record cleaner.  Hardest part was to find an inverter that was worthy of that super clean sunshine uh uh I mean DC. Regards, barts
Audio Research Ref 75 SE: Replace 20A IEC inlet with 15A
An often overlooked reason to have what appears to be an "over-kill" component where a lesser one would suffice is that its just easier to stock one item rather than two.  The 20 amp will certainly work in place of the 15 amp.  I am not familiar w...
Good cost effective USB cables for digital audio please
At the moment I'm using a no name cable from Nucleus+ to DAC so this thread is timely for me. Can someone answer the question of optimum length?  Or please post the lengths that you are currently using.  Thanks. Regards, barts
Let me explain something to you jive turkeys.
Count your blessings... Better than them sayin' the SuperBowl  half time show was freakin' awesome! Regards, barts
Cassette decks. How good can it get?
@wolfie62  @wolfie62  Wow that's a once in a life-time gambit! Good for you.  Fortunately, my darling wife is a music fan and has "golden ears".... no really.  So, I get some grief if I purchase some crap.  I don't buy crap.  It's a private joke...
Cassette decks. How good can it get?
@wolfie62  That's about 10 times as many dbx discs as I had, gave them to a friend a while back.  I remember one was "HEART" and another was DeBussy...yes they did sound phenomenal! Regards, barts
Cassette decks. How good can it get?
Back in the day I had a cassette machine, kinda crappy really, but it looked nice and I would record songs from FM radio instead of buying the album.  Then I got my first Teac rtr and that was the end of the cassette almost.  Bought a dbx compande...
God doesn't need to know what time it is.
Probably the best and most functional watch I've ever owned was a "Casio - Moon Phase" back-lit LED, I think that was the name.  Cost was $12.95.   Never had to replace the battery.  I would use the stopwatch function to race myself  to work every...
