Power Conditioning on the Cheap
Last year I went through a search for a small size power conditioner for my computer and digital audio setup.  The lower level Furman's were okay, but they only had 3 outlets on the rear (6 plugs).  Also, the Furman has a single filter design.  I ...
Why still USB 2.0?
In addition, USB 3 cables require a lot more wires (conductors).  This means the quality of individual conductors will suffer.

You may not agree, but your reply indicate you don't understand the reasoning (despite the fact that i laid it out).  USB is asynchronous. It simply reads bits into abuffer and is then reclocekd with a high quality clock.  You may be theoretica...

So an SPDIF card would be pretty much the last choice. I don’t actually completely agree with this. USB is required for DSD. However, USB is a data packet interface. It is true that an upgraded USB audio card will help things, but this is not n...

The Windows 7 and Windows 10 sound device system pretty much takes over any audio from an application.  I don't like the way they did this because it over-rides and re-samples/converts the original music data to whatever you set as "default" in th...
12v linear power supply
Actually, no, its the noise. And i'm not sure what you man by AC noise, the noise is (by definition) AC superimposed on DC and is a product of the way Switching mode power supplies work. ( i wont go into that here, look it up) Yes, I know how s...

Try going to "Advanced" tab in your sound configuration in Control Panel and setting the Default Format to "2 channel, 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)".  Then try playing a youtube video and see if the DAC is receiving 24/192.  Alternatively, y...

Maybe the motherboard is limited to 24/48 on the optical?  No idea.  Have you checked the Sound configuration in Control Panel to see if 96.0 kHz is checked in the "Supported Formats" tab?
New Pre/Pro for 2 ch guy? (+How easy to set up RC in top units like Lyngdorf, etc)?
There are a few Bryston SP3 processors up for sale among the three main sites.  There's one on audiogon for $4200 that also has the latest 4K HDMI board.  I think that's about as good as you are going to get for a true pass-through processor with ...
New Pre/Pro for 2 ch guy? (+How easy to set up RC in top units like Lyngdorf, etc)?
I do not have direct experience with either Lyngdorf or McIntosh.  I'm just going off a friend's opinion when he heard the McIntosh pre/pro.  I tried using Dirac room correction once and did not like it at all, so my feelings on room control are ...
New Pre/Pro for 2 ch guy? (+How easy to set up RC in top units like Lyngdorf, etc)?
Unfortunately the MX 180 is just way too much money, even used.  I'd like to keep it all under $10k I have seen the McIntosh MX-160 go for $8k used.

I worked for Magnolia for a bit and when they had the KEF Blades hooked up to Macs they sounded mushy, compromised, and not performing at the level they were capable of. Are you speaking about McIntosh amps?  If so, then I do agree that McIntos...

The EVGA Nu audio card does NOT have an RCA S/PDIF output. That’s what you really want. EVGA has an optical, but we are trying to avoid that interface because RCA coax will always sound better. For S/PDIF output, the Asus Xonar Essence STX will be...

You could buy a used Asus Xonar Essence STX on ebay for anywhere from $50 to $250.  There's an STX II card for $295 if you want the latest version.  These have an RCA S/PDIF output that is better than the optical on your motherboard.  Drivers are ...

I would invest in a JCAT USB card ($495), though it’s probably more than you want to spend. Alternative, the Matrix Element H USB card ($329) or the SOTM tX-USBexp USB 3.0 card ($350) might be options. That being said, it’s hard to say whether the...
