Speakers that sound great in terrible rooms
@br3098 wrote: "omnidirectional speakers better mimic the music we prefer in the venues we typically listen live." I get it! Good omnis have very rich timbre and convey a wonderful sense of spaciousness, especially when they have a bit of breathin...

Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
To smodtactical, Imo the sheer size of your large listening space bodes well for bass reproduction. Arguably what the Swarm does in a smaller room is, approximate the in-room response that we’d get with fewer subs in a much larger room. I do think...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?

Speakers that sound great in terrible rooms
Omni speakers have been mentioned several times, and there is definitely something they do right which contributes to dealing with terrible rooms: Their off-axis response has the same spectral balance as their on-axis response. Thus their reverber...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
Tyray asked: "Can a customer use their own passive subwoofers of choice?" You can totally use your subs of choice, active or passive. Here is the amplifier that I use to drive my passive subs, note that it has a single band of EQ and a switchable ...

Speakers that sound great in terrible rooms
The way a speaker interacts with the room is a big part of how it sounds, for better or for worse. Imo it is possible to design a speaker to interact favorably with a very wide variety of rooms, including "terrible" ones. Several basic principles ...
Bass at your ears? (Bass imaging)
The bassline on that recording is a form of "wobble bass", which in and of itself does not explain the "claustrophobic" sensation. The size of the acoustic space is conveyed by the reverberation. A small space is conveyed by rapid onset and rapid ...
Bass at your ears? (Bass imaging)
My guess is that it’s part of the recording, and is probably deliberate. If the bass was the only instrument recorded with little or no reverb then it would be the only instrument which would tend to sound "proximate", or close to one’s ears. Sort...
Super tweeter for FullRange Driver

Stuck at home? Make a kit!!
I agree with Eric that there is enormous satisfaction in DIY audio. My second pair of speakers used the drivers and crossover from a kit that KEF offered back in the late 1970’s, and performance-wise they killed my first pair of store-bought, maga...
Super tweeter for FullRange Driver
