Speaker upgrade My impression (based unfortunately on listening in very different rooms) is that the YG Sonja 2 has more energy at the frequency extremes and is the "flatter" of the two, while the Magico M3 is "warmer". As to which is the better match for your Ay...
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers @bache wrote: " What Bache audio ultimately gravitated towards was the so-called “augmented wide-band” (AWB) speaker, which uses a single wide-band driver that covers a large portion of the audible frequency band accompanied by several of what he ...
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers In my opinion a good "fullrange" driver can do many things well, but the frequency extremes are generally not among them. I'd be inclined to keep bass frequencies out of it and use a dedicated woofer, and to add a tweeter to improve the top-end d...
purchasing US made speakers Squeak_king_77, thanks for the mention.Jacobsen1948, thanks for your reply. Glad to hear that you have no trouble following conversations. Very nice amp by the way! And you mentioned using an NAD amp for surround... so are these speakers for a mu...
purchasing US made speakers One of the things that declines as we get older is the ability to easily follow voices and instruments in the presence of a lot of reflections. If you have noticed increased difficulty in carrying on a conversation at a party where a lot of people...
The best "imaging" speakers? Image precision is primarily delivered by the first-arrival sound, and is degraded by very early reflections from the speaker itself (including diffraction), and also by early room reflections, but not so much by later reflections unless they are ...
Alternatives to Brick and Mortar @jayton wrote: "I like the idea of local audio clubs hosting vendors." I think that would be great fun for the audio club members, but not a viable sales model. They would love to have you come and show off your stuff and listen to them talk about...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) Regarding the ASR review of the Salk WOW1 speakers: That speaker was designed to be used UP AGAINST THE WALL, and its overall frequency response curve is imo CORRECT for a small speaker which will be getting a lot of boundary reinforcement from th...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) One possible source of aggressive treble is poor amp/speaker matching, but this is not something which is obvious to most people. One would think good amp + good speaker = good results, but not necessarily. If I understand correctly, the amplifier ...
The next big driver hype: Textreme @erik_squires wrote: "Just thought I’d mention it now, since in a few months we are probably going to be seeing a number of drivers, possibly tweeters as well as mids and woofers of this material." Eyeballing the waterfall plots of similar driver...
Not sure of term but I notice some distortion/vibration coming out the speaker port? If it’s a mechanical noise, it could many things but one of them is unsecured wires vibrating from the air movement due to the port. If it’s a "flutter" then it could be either chuffing or an air leak. I once had a small air leak underneath the fl...
Warn Sound Capacitor In my opinion "warmth" comes more from the shape of the frequency response curve than from the capacitor itself; in other words "warmth" is more of a speaker voicing issue than a capacitor brand issue. On the other hand imo "clarity" and "resolut...
wide baffles and baffle step @avanti1960 wrote: "With respect to baffle step compensation, unless the baffle is wide enough to impinge on the limits of room space and physical practicality there will be a 3db loss of all frequencies below the baffle step frequency. For examp...
wide baffles and baffle step Tomic601, my understanding is that sound waves are longitudinal pressure fluctuations, not transverse waves (even though we tend to draw them that way), and therefore there is no phase change when they reflect or diffract. There is of course a...
wide baffles and baffle step Thank you very much, arion and twoleftears. Imo "wave launch" is a good description of what a wide baffle does well. I don't know whether it is technically precise or not, but the image it conjures up in my mind is of a sound wave getting a bett... |
