Monstrous power cables
Thanks for all your thoughts and external reading links.  I do appreciate all of you. I’ve not read them all but the idea that our components aren’t at the end of the electrical chain was interesting.  I’ve never looked at it in that way. I’ve a...
Can moving wire location at circuit breaker reduce hum?
The current culprit is a Marsh amp.  Lights but no dimmer switch.  The house was build in 2001 but I upgraded the receptacle with one of the audiophile-approved  Randy’s about a year back. I’ve always had a problem with this room and initially th...
Can moving wire location at circuit breaker reduce hum?
Thank you so every much, everyone! Is a DC blocker like the Hum X device?  If so I've got two of those and they really don't do much at all. I'll trying tightening the screws and maybe moving the line that goes into my music room but beyond that...
How best to eliminate LP warps
Can’t you just replace the records that are warped?
Di I really need to clean my LP's?
I’ve got many records I bought new in the early 80s and used nothing other than a Discwasher with their fluid and the records sound fine to this day.  The only time I use a RCM (VPI 16.5) is when I buy a used record and it’s really grimy or if I l...
Can moving wire location at circuit breaker reduce hum?
Shut everything else off at the circuit breaker and still hum.   I guess I’ll keep on living with it until I get an electrician to install a dedicated line. Hope that will do the trick.
Can moving wire location at circuit breaker reduce hum?
Thanks, Erik.  I’ll try that.
Can moving wire location at circuit breaker reduce hum?
Thanks, everyone, for your input.  I’ll pick up the tester on Amazon. I have shut off the circuit that goes into my music room and went around testing the outlets all around it to see which ones are dead.  I’m guessing the receptacles would be in...
What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest?
For me the Dunlavy SC-IV took the cake in both height (72”) and weight (180 lbs). Huge speakers that imaged like monitors. Regret selling them.
Bose 901's in an acoustically treated room?
Thanks for the link to Holt’s review.  I read that years ago and had pretty much forgotten about it. How nice that he actually took the time to give it an in-depth review rather than just dismissing it outright as many do nowadays.  In the end wh...
Bose 901's in an acoustically treated room?
The "no bass" comments surprise me.  Back in the day, four 901's (one in each corner of a ceiling) were used in some clubs for dance music.  They produce plenty of bass, IMO. I wonder if the treatment reduces the higher frequencies just boosting ...
Bose 901's in an acoustically treated room?
I think properly set up the Bose spealers can sound rather nice.  As good as higher end speakers?  Possibly. I was curious to see if anyone plopped down a pair of 901's in an acoustically treated room as the majority of their sound is aimed at th...
Local pick up only…
Lucky for you. I've never experienced that with few occasions things were broken enroute to me.  I've also been told each time I ship something that damage will not be covered unless the UPS packs the item regardless of original box or not.
Local pick up only…
It’s not just the shipping costs or taxes that people are concerned about.   Many don’t realize this, but carriers (at least UPS) will only insure for damage if “they” box the item up themselves.  Even if i box the speakers or any other item in i...
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
So one cannot be an audiophile, in your opinion, if one doesn't believe switches, cables and fuses make a difference? How boring any forum would be if everyone agreed about everything.
