Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Thinking you are going to have a setup that won't mistrack is akin to planning on getting into the ring and not getting hit. You expect trouble when designed analog equipment! It is for that reason- vibration (whether from the LP, airborne or o...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm WRT cutting level and mistracking, it seems there is not a good definition of what mistracking actually is. My take is any movement in a direction not cut on the record is mistracking which means it is constant occurrence from numerous causes. ...
Speakers for Atma Sphere M60 mk3 The SF is a 4 Ohm load, rated 91 dB Sensitivity. To convert to Efficiency, which is a more useful spec for tube amplifiers, you have to subtract 3dB on account of the fact that Sensitivity is a voltage measurement, while Efficiency is power. 2.83 ...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm The problem with the ’mechanical engineering’ view is when you define a "goal" or a "standard" then it can easily be seen if that goal is met and an unassailable judgement made. No consideration is given to the absolute magnitude or the underlyin...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm @intactaudio I'm not sure about the 'world view' bit. This is a mechanical engineering problem. The arm tube doesn't appear rigidly coupled to its base (being suspended by yarn), so if vibration is present at the platter the pickup will be able...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Furthermore, I would venture to guess that neither Raul nor Mijostyn is actually making measurements of his audio gear and the signal that comes out of them. They are most likely going by data supplied by manufacturers and their own considerable ...
The Impossible Has Happened Audio electronics have been transparent to the source for several decades - contrary to what the manufacturers want you to believe! If this is correct, can you explain the tubes/solid state that's been going on for so long? The tube guys assert...
Thorsten Loesch vs Amir Not to connect pin1 to the shell of an RCA? or Something else? @holmz Something else. There's something called the 'pin1 problem' dealing with balanced lines. Quite often the ground tab of the XLR connector gets tied to pin 1 (they are r...
Inter Connects - What I know and don't know Maybe I was being presumptuous by assuming that the signals pins == "signal circuitry" in the diagram. @nquery You were. the lines from the bottom of the 'signal circuitry' box are ground connections. The signal passes from left to right in the...
Using preamps with Bass Management and Room Correction? @schw06 You’ll find bass management difficult in most rectangular rooms without something called a Distributed Bass Array. This is the use of at least 4 subwoofers placed assymetrically about the room so as to break up standing waves (nodes) so th...
Inter Connects - What I know and don't know @nquery I don't see any figures in the document at the link which have the signal pins tied to 'REF'. If they were tied in such a fashion, I imagine they would be shorted. Perhaps you can list the page number on which the figure is found?
Inter Connects - What I know and don't know @nquery this might be easier to understand: Balanced line connections Its from the Rane website- they are a manufacturer of studio equipment. The reason ground is ignored (whereas in a single-ended connection the ground is part of the signal) ...
When were the best tube amps made? not sure whether Zero Autoformers are really zero cost. I used them on a Graaf GM20 about 15 years ago and while bass was significantly tightened, the overall SQ lost pizzazz. It felt a bit like a Ferrari on Qualudes… @antigrunge2 The result de...
Difference in Using Mono-blocs with Maggie 20.7's The advantage of monoblocks is being able to keep the amps very near the speakers so as to keep the speaker cable as short as possible. The lower the impedance of the speaker the more important this becomes- really helps when you want to get bass ...
What characteristics do you listen for when purchasing amps/preamps ? Its the mark of a good system that its very difficult to tell how loud its playing. This means (amongst other things) the amp/preamp must not have any unmasked higher ordered harmonics which the ear can interpret as harshness and brightness. |
