Why did this fix my problem?
I first saw something similar occur in the 1970s with an ARC D-150 and an ARC preamp that had a bad regulator in the power supply. The preamp would make some low frequency noise, the amp would amplify it, the AC line would sag, that caused the prea...
Who uses high end TT setup for vintage records ?
some of whom I understand would make adjustments "on-the-fly" to compensate for frequency/dynamic changes at the beginning /end of a side.If they did, it must be an unusual thing to do- there is nothing about that showing up in RCA's studio manual...
Class A amps or Class D??: Which sounds better??
:)B&W 802s don't really work with tubes anyway...
Why does your turntable sound the way it does.
I'm a bit confused. What are you listening for exactly? The sound coming off of the stylus directly into the air?Yes. If the LP is properly damped it will be quieter. The louder it is, the more problems you are dealing with.Warren's platter pad wa...
Why did this fix my problem?
The problem is that there is a power supply instability in the preamp. The output coupling cap, when driving a 100K load, represented a frequency pole that was lower than the frequency pole in the preamp's power supply. The result is low frequency ...

Wait a bit. Think about price/performance curves. Unless you like buying new amps every six months.

Audible low level humm from Vincent st-70
Yikes! The third prong (ground) on the power cord should never be a problem. If it is, this indicates that the manufacturer has not done their homework and figured out how to ground their equipment properly.Using a cheater to look for ground loops...

Audiozen, FWIW Joe (Trelja) has been in the audio business for some time. He used to work with Bud Fried and also imported the Consonance line.

One nice thing about LPs from the 50s and early 60s is that they have an all-tube recording chain! The better your playback the more you get the benefit of that. But I've got a lot of good LPs with a digital master tape as well. Most people don't r...
Why does your turntable sound the way it does.
I can answer one question here that has to do with the platter and platter pad:When the needle tracks the groove, the vinyl can talk back to the stylus and thus affect the sound. Just turn down the volume when you are playing an LP and you will se...
bipoles/dipoles for music...
Phasecorrect, I have yet to run into a situation where a dipole or bipole was less precise about imaging information. If you are a speaker manufacturer, essentially this is an easy way to improve imaging of the speaker, by taking advantage of the ...
World's best Pre-amp for $10K and above?
I have listened to master tapes in studio's many times over the years and have two friends that are recording engineers with state of the art studios in their homes. I doubt very much you have listened to the MPS-5 player. Andreas Koch who is cons...
the best 'tubey amp - warm,smooth,liquid' ?
can we say 'the big speaker systems like proac d40 or b&w (4ohm) generally don't go well with tube amps'?Yes, and I can take it a step further- 4 ohms does not go well with *any* amplifier, if **sound quality** is your goal. If *sound pressure...
bipoles/dipoles for music...
The idea is that with all the reflections the ear/brain system can get a better idea of where the sound is coming from. So dipoles and bipoles should be capable of greater imaging than speakers that radiate only from the front.
