It doesn't mean you cannot build a nice amp that uses NFB, but that "air" and sense of "realism" that you treasure is hindered by NFB. That depends on how the feedback is implemented!! If the feedback is sent to a non-linear point in the input ...
Best speakers for classic rock
Yeah right....you’ll make a sarod and a piano sound the same (equally flippin brilliant) on every kind of speaker...Immense Bullsht is what it is! Lol @deep_333  I never said anything like that (take a look). Of course different speakers sound...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps
Can anyone provide a working definition of "neutral?"  In other words, a point from which we can agree is indeed sonically neutral? Neutral equipment makes no editorial of the signal. The Absolute Sound magazine gets its name from the idea that...
Best speakers for classic rock
Again??? Spoken like a simpleton....over and over What’s your real story here dude? Did you blow all your cash on a single pair of speakers (’cost no object’ or something?) and you’re trying to convince yourself somehow that it is simply the be...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps
To atmasphere:    Knowing your background of tube design, etc., would you recommend perhaps using a SS power amp with a tube preamplifier?  Or perhaps a ss / tube hybrid integrated?  Thanks. @gregjacob If the speakers are low efficiency as the ...

.... and those treasure globes look SO COOL!! @1markr They look neat, but the globe is highly resonant. If the tube develops microphonics the globe exacerbates the problem. The regular Linlai tube does not have this problem.
I'm going to buy my first tube amp. I need honest blunt opinions
@marshinski15 , @soix has given you excellent advice. Four Ohm speakers are usually not the best way to be introduced to a tube amplifier. If it has an output transformer (and most do, but not all) you can lose as much as an octave of bandwidth in...
What are the best GaN Amplifiers available today?
So, you are an expert on damping? You spent hundreds of hours with various damping materials and used them everywhere and you know which damping materials are linear and which are not and where to use it and where not to use it? 🙄 We've had op...
Lush and Romantic Tube Amps
I am on a quest for a lush, warm and romantic tube amp. Ideally, it should be 75 watts and upwards. I’m in a large room and my speakers are 87.5 sensitivity and 8 ohm. @bluethinker If the above is correct you will find that 75 Watts is not enou...
Is a GAn amp worth the switch?
When implemented correctly, they can sound as good as Class A, Class AB, SOME,,,NOT ALL Tube designs. IMO/IME they can sound better than any tube design. For this reason I think tube power amplifiers are on borrowed time. less then 25% of the...
What are the best GaN Amplifiers available today?
DO NOT OVERDAMP! It is impossible to overdamp. If adding too much damping seems to mess things up its because the damping device or material really isn't that good at its job so its adding a coloration of its own. FWIW I've found our class D a...
Tube amplifiers - software recalibration?
Do tube amplifiers need calibration adjustments periodically? Absent being properly calibrated can this cause amps to be shut down due to existing voltage monitoring controls designed to protect the tubes?  @emergingsoul Some amps need adjustme...
Tube measurement question...
@bh123 I have a different take on what those numbers mean. If they are handwritten, I would expect them to be a reading taken from a tester, which suggests that the Psvane tube is a bit stronger. All tubes are built to a tube spec, so that if bia...
4 ohm. > 89 db.
@jpwarren58  If you have a choice, 4 Ohms is a harder load for all amplifiers and as a result they make more distortion driving such a load. So if the speaker could be made to be 8 or 16 Ohms without otherwise changing it, it would sound smoother...
Best speakers for classic rock
Again: The idea that a speaker is the best for a certain genre of music is one of the biggest myths in audio. Is 'classic' rock from the 50s, 60s, or 70s? Or, if one is a bit younger, does that mean 80s and some 90s? I actually had someone ask m...
