Moving to a dynamic speaker from a Electrostatic Ralph do you know of anyone running any of your amps with a nola speaker?I've heard of it but not heard the combination myself. I do know though that most of the Nola's have dual woofer arrays, expecting the amp to double its power into the lower ...

Connecting the ground wire makes music less lively Do you have any sort of loading on the cartridge?
Moving to a dynamic speaker from a Electrostatic Yup! You can say that again!
Seems like the best "upgrade" for tube amps.... First you do the circuit design.Next is to see how much it is affected by materials. Some areas in the circuit will be sensitive and other areas nearly immune. 3rd to to sort out what the best materials/parts are and install them.4th- the 3 most i...
Connecting the ground wire makes music less lively Phonograph cartridges are a balanced source. That is why the ground wire is needed, as it is the ground of the balanced system. The thing is, when employed as a single-ended source, the capacitance of the interconnect plays a bigger role when the ...
Seems like the best "upgrade" for tube amps.... With solid state gear if you want it to really sound right it probably has to be left on all the time- especially preamps. Our amps seem to get to 99% of where they are going in about an hour- two hours they are totally there. In the old days it t...
Tube Bias issue. Ralph, in the interest of optimizing sonics do you think it would be worthwhile for Robert to try a pair of 5751's in the 12AX7 locations? It might be worth a shot- of course an easier tube to find is the 12AT7, which has the same mu: 70 instead of...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls? What's striking to me about this thread is that most people who have converted to single driver systems say it's the "distortion" of multiple drivers and crossovers etc... that they are free from that provide them a clarity and magic that multiple...
Tube Bias issue. Thanks for pointing that out Al! Some amplifiers are unstable with capacitive loads. I generally associate that with transistor amps (with poorly designed feedback elements), and a tube amp can have troubles too for the same reason. Changing the d...
The HH Scott 350 A MultiplexCircuitry We are a manufacturer, and we do a lot of work in the service arena also. As a result, I try really hard not to get in trouble with the site rules.
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls? Getting a small driver to do bass is hard. Its a matter of excursion.Getting it to do the highs is an entirely different problem! You get cancellation in the cone, which is why many single-driver speakers have a device called a phase plug the help...
Tube Bias issue. What tap on the amplifier were you using with the MLs?MLs generally have a very low impedance and are rarely suited to work with tube amplifiers! It might simply be that the impedance of the speaker is playing a role. Here's a theory:Like any othe...
The HH Scott 350 A MultiplexCircuitry Just FWIW, we can do a stereo alignment too. FM Stereo Multiplex generators are not as common nowadays as they used to be. So it does not surprise me that a newer shop might not have that instrument on hand.
Philosophy: Bearing vs. Unipivot Groove spacing is in fact what I mean when speaking of horizontal speed. Many records are in fact cut with a constant groove spacing but most are not. At any rate, the arm can be made to track the variable groove spacing with no worries. |
