Question About Audio Research Preamp Specs
@dsper In the meantime, I will explore different 6922 tubes that might help to mask the LF roll-off. Not sure if that makes any sense...It doesn't. Changing the tube won't affect the frequency response.
Looking for phono preamp recommendations
@hambonYour line section is balanced- were you thinking about a balanced phono section as well (all phono cartridges are balanced sources for what its worth)?
lack of bass
i must say that the tracks were taken from the web so i dont know how good they are.@suhilaThe system may well be revealing a problem with the tracks. Do you have the problem playing tracks you know?
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
Other 6SN7 preamps I’ve been curious about and would welcome a chance to hear in my system included; deHavaland Ultraverbe, Atma-Sphere MP-3, and TRL Dude.@ianderson  FWIW the MP-3 is a fully differential balanced design. We do make a single-end...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
Many do try to do just that. Look around however, it quickly becomes very obvious the hardest most expensive thing you can find is two quality speakers with true 20 Hz bass. They essentially do not exist. Turns out (read on) that for reasons of...
I wan't the best in this price range
my music taste, is rock, new wave, rock jazz, mail vocals etc!!At the moment I’m running a pair of Zu, souls MK 2, they were great with a tube amp, but I’m running them though a pair of Solid State mono blocks, 175 ohm per mono block, the sound is...
Importance of impedance matching cartridge with phono stage?
Certainly listen with no resistor at all first.
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
I really don’t foresee analog system getting any better than 70 dB. But digital systems can achieve 90+ dB (potentially).16 bit is -96 dB, but analog can and does get to -85 dB down. The reason this is so is not because all LPs are that quiet (peo...
Importance of impedance matching cartridge with phono stage?
A whole lot of low-output MC’s like to be loaded 100 ohms or less in conjunction with many active MC phono stages. This statement is false (and a very common myth). The reason for the 'loading' has nothing to do with the cartridge and everything to...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
One problem with full range systems is that standing waves often exist in the listening room. This can mean bass in most areas except the listening chair. The solution isn't room treatment, its placement of several subs in such a way as to break u...
PASS XP-17 or Allnic H-1202?
Are you planning to run the cartridge balanced?
Vinyl vs high def audio i.e. 24bit / 96 or 192khz
“Actually its kids that are driving vinyl sales these days- not older audiophiles.”I respectfully disagree, I have yet to witness ‘kids’ buying the vinyl.Just go through the record bins of new LPs and look at the titles. The store is buying titles...
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
this is groove echo caused by modulation bleeding through from the adjacent track -- you can hear it both pre and post (one on the left, the other on the right) and it disappears completely on loud passages where the grooves are widely spaced -...
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
On an original Berglund Sibelius ASD3216 the continuous foreshadowing through long quiet passages rendered the disc almost unlistenable -- maybe late 70s quad pressings make this phenomena worse but in a highly resolving system you'll begin to ...
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
Still, one has to admit, the way the phono stage knows to make the tick happen every time the record comes around, is pretty impressive.@millercarbon,If you have a scratch, that's a different matter. I'm not talking about that but as a general ru...
