Can an IC based amp be considered 'high end'?
That’s an interesting view, I take that to mean an uncompromising focus on audio quality - is that what you mean?I remember when I first got asked that question about 35 years ago. I had to think about it. I know it isn’t price! There are things t...
Devore Nines and amp match
The Devores are a good match with tube amps, even though with a fairly high output impedance as tube amps go. The Primaluna will be no worries.
Can an IC based amp be considered 'high end'?
@pragmasi  Tubes, discrete or ICs, the **intention** is what makes it high end. So yes, an IC-based amplifier can be high end, just the way that tube amps can be entry level and vice versa. Intention has everything to do with it.
Audio Kinesis Swarm Subwoofer Awarded 2019 Golden Ear Award by Robert E. Greene
Congratulations to Duke for well-deserved praise!IMO the Swarm is one of the best sub systems out there
Subwoofer advice
The Audiokinesis Swarm is one of the better sub systems made and its not expensive. What's better is that it works best if placed against the walls, and the most important bit is that unlike single or dual woofer systems you don't have standing wa...

Recommendations for Preamp for Balanced SPL Performer s800
What sort of budget do you have?
Budget Tube Amp (newbie)
Dynaco made an amp called the MkIII that was a 60 watt monoblock. This turned out to be a good amount of power for the original Advent. You can still buy the MkIII as a kit (looks like this is for one channel):http://www.triodeelectronics.com/trmk...
Atma-sphere Updates
And if they were reasonable why did Atmasphere delete many of the worst ones himself [which he said he had done] @jtgofish This statement is incorrect. I've yet to delete any of my posts and stand by them. You are also mistaken about my intent. A...
Is Class D Analog or Digital ?
@kijanki and @erik_squires have this exactly right. Its an unfortunate bit that class D and digital coincidentally use a 'D' in a significant way. 'Digital' can also mean fingers but for some reason we don't seem to have that confusion so often.
Mounting Triplanar Tonearm to SME 20/2 Turntable
Right???@millercarbon  I do talk with the voice of authority fairly often, which probably isn't the best way to present things. But I try to temper that with simply not responding if I have any doubts. FWIW dept.: I own two Triplanars and Triplana...
Who needs a Preamp??
Ralph (Atma-Sphere) i got great sound with a Townshend Allegri+ with a pair of your mono's, one of the best sounds i have heard. The Townsend is a Transformer Volume Control rather than a simple passive (potentiometer)- a bit different in princip...
Is ground noise really normal? If so, why?
'Ground noise' sounds like a bad ground connection to me.If you have a balanced preamp then the ground of the arm should also be the shields of the tone arm interconnect cable and tying to pin 1 of the XLR connections on your preamp. The '+' and '...
Mounting Triplanar Tonearm to SME 20/2 Turntable
I could also have a wooden disk cut to the same size circle as the SME arm board and attach the TP arm to it. I don't want to detract from the aesthetics of the system, but I suppose I can paint it black so it blends OK.  This will result in ...
Vinyl “Pops & Clicks” eliminators
Besides a much more musically satisfying sound, the Luxman's greater dynamic headroom tends to minimize surface noise compared to what I had before.  I expected excellent music but the surface noise reduction is an unexpected benefit from a de...
