turntable hum
You might look for a screw on the motor's housing you couldattach a spade lug to. I did- at least on the unit I serviced there was no convenient screw. So I soldered it instead.
What does an impedance-matching issue "sound" like?
Interesting diagram, and that means I’m out of my experience level. I’ve never seen an amp "bridgeable" like this before, but the high output impedance of the transformer probably makes it less frightening than a SS amp with feedback coupled outpu...
Suggestions for higher efficiency speakers
I have Snell Type D at around 87 dB and Gallo 3.1 at around 88. Not exactly inefficient but could be better. No- this is **exactly** what inefficient looks like (its at the upper end of inefficient- almost moderate). These are inappropriate spea...
Need help on the TRL DUDE
I agree with @grannyring . @eburgFor the transformer winding to open up without provocation is an extremely rare event, but failure of other components in a DC power supply such that the DC supply isn't running is fairly common. I'd also look at a...
Transformer coupled vs Capacitor coupled?
I believe it is Ralph’s contention that balanced circuits themselves provide benefits over single-ended, Tim and Roger that balanced transmission is what they find of significant value, not the circuit itself. About that I may be mistaken ;-) -...
What's more important in a difficult room, room correction or higher, clean, power?
The problem with room treatment is the amount of it you need to treat low frequencies, that's where I think DSP can be useful. This is also where a distributed bass array like the Swarm is helpful.
Congratulations Atmasphere!
But I am curious if your new amps would be usable for my Linkwitz LX521.4 open baffle speakers? The class D amp acts like a voltage source similar to the Parasound, so it should work. Like any class D amp it is energy efficient.
Need help on the TRL DUDE
We serviced out a Dude a few years ago. I don't recall the problem, but it does not seem challenging to sort something like that out. Any transformer that can deliver the current you need should do the job. I'd be very surprised to find out that t...
What's more important in a difficult room, room correction or higher, clean, power?
I'm not a fan of room correction. The reason is most often what is going on is a standing wave which no amount of correction will fix. You can kill a standing wave by using a distributed bass array. The best example of this is the Swarm made by Au...
turntable hum
You'll have to add one. One common problem with Regas is the motor isn't grounded and radiates hum to certain kinds of cartridges such as Grados. But when the motor is grounded (as well as the tone arm) then there is no hum. Grounding the motor is ...
Transformer coupled vs Capacitor coupled?
The problem with transformers is bandwidth. Usually in a preamp level situation their bandwidth can be fairly wide, but to prevent phase shift in the audio band the bandwidth of the preamplifier circuit has to be from 2Hz to 200KHz and even in sma...
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load
OK, so what is the definition of instability for these Class-D amplifiers?Stability is the same definition regardless of the kind of amplifier. It is the ability of the amplifier to resist oscillation.Oscillation has nothing to do with whether an ...
Up to date list of GaN Class D Amplifiers?
Anyone heard one?Is it really a game changer? Is GaN likely to reach the mass market?Yes, maybe and yes.GaNFETs are pretty cheap nowadays so anyone can design a circuit using them inexpensively. But MOSFETs aren't out of the game yet; some of the n...
300B SET or EL34 SET
I tought my Tannoy Legacy Eaton at 89dB sensivity would be too hard for the 300B amp to drive @simna  And you were correct. In reality a Push-Pull EL-34 based amp will be barely enough power in most rooms if this efficiency is correct!SETs are sim...
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load
'Stability' is that which prevents the amp from oscillating. Just so you know. So in the phrase:As I said above, so is an 80’s NAD3020, stability is needed,- the term is being misused. In fact its unclear what is meant here. Are you saying that th...
