What preamp creates the largest soundstage?
There is no "soundstage" below about 80-120Hz.This is true. But if the low frequency cutoff of the amplification is only 20Hz, phase shift will exist up to 200Hz. Admittedly, not a lot going on there either. But the phase shift can affect impact o...
2 amplifiers connected to 1 set of speakers
What happens is the output section of one amp loads the other. This is bad when one is off, worse when both are on! Smoke and other things happen!
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
I think pops are easier to understand but clicks and crackle noises, what causes this? Some of course are caused by damage to the LP surface and static electricity. But not all. Many ticks and pops are caused by radio frequency overload of the phon...
Tonearm mount to the plinth vs arm board vs rotating arm board vs isolated tower
@halcro And for the record, I never made a statement like that. One way you can tell this is so is that I don't use emojis in any of my posts. Putting up a post like this is oxymoronic; the post is false in every way. Look, rather than kill the me...

What is the correct answer fellow audiogon members? Ralph? The correct and short answer is no.If you really want to do this you could use a switch, but often the switch messes up the sound.
What preamp creates the largest soundstage?
The biggest 3D soundstage comes from directly heated triode [DHT] preamps. This statement is false. To get a proper soundstage that is faithful to the input signal, the preamp must have wide bandwidth so there are no phase shift issues in the audio...
Tonearm mount to the plinth vs arm board vs rotating arm board vs isolated tower
Yes, it works fine. Bob Worzella of Sound Anchors mentioned this to me about 30 years ago- this is how he was able to prove that his stands for Vandersteens actually resulted in better measurable performance. @halcro  a turntable that struts and f...
power amp/pre amp input and output impedence question
As long as you are north of 10:1 you're good. The only issue you might run into with amps with a very high input impedance is you might want to keep the capacitance down with your interconnect cables so as to maintain high frequency bandwidth.
Can this swarm fly?
FWIW, the thing about the actual Swarm is that the speakers are designed to be right up against the wall to give you flat response. Normal subs are not- they should be placed outside the room boundaries for best effect.
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
What I'd like to know is whether a 4 smaller sub DBA has diminishing returns over dual larger higher powered subs when room correction is employedIMO/IME its the other way around. But if you have a DBA, then when you apply the room correction it...
Oppo 105 and Power Amplifier Input Sensitivity
Yes. You could run a Passive Volume Control too. If you go that route, keep your cables short! IME they tend to rob some of the bass impact if less than full volume; that's why I prefer other means.
Tonearm mount to the plinth vs arm board vs rotating arm board vs isolated tower
I heartily recommend that everyone make their own recordings in high fidelity. A nice tape machine and a good set of microphones are required. Find a nice-sounding venue and make a recording of something that you can stand to listen to over and ov...
Oppo 105 and Power Amplifier Input Sensitivity
I'd put the amp on the 4.8V sensitivity and then you should be able to run the Oppo, but before you put in a CD, turn the volume down!
