Conrad Johnson Premier 17LS vs. VTL TL-5.5? I owned the 17LS. It has a very lovely, pure, delicate sound. Microdetail was awesome. It was somehow very linear and yet very musically sweet at the same time. I like that piece a lot and recommend it strongly. My favorite preamp is the First Sou...
EAR 834 vs. ARC PH-3? The EAR has an uncanny beauty, especially with upgraded tubes. You can upgraded parts to achieve the transparency levels of more expensive phono stages.
kef 104/2 or Thiel 2.3 Thiel speakers are designed for accurate reproduction and coherence and soundstaging.... If you go with Thiel 2.3 make sure it's a newer model with the midrange upgrade. Andy make sure you have superb amplification - with a lot of power, very clea...
Dare I admit? Low end speaker confusion - help I have often been impressed by the grace, the relaxed sound of older speakres, especially 3-way speakers that have large woofers (like my old Gale 401c's!). It might be that the goals of speaker designers have changed over the years and what I cal...
Plinius 9200 vs 8200 mkII I think the 8200mkII was bumped to $3300 the last few months of it's life. Maybe this took place officially but not in practice.
Sonatina II spikes and stability questions: I find it's pretty stable, but not as stable as it would be with four leveled spikes. I suspect he used three spikes because of the backward lean, the majority of the weight is on the back two spikes anyway.Art
Placette, VS First Sound VS Audio Synthesis Passio Tough call, these are great pieces. I've had extensive experience with Passive Placette, Active Placette, and First Sound Deluxe (the $4k model). When I wear my audiophile hat the Placette wins - for detail and linearity, without being harsh, it i...
Sonatina II spikes and stability questions: I adjust the height of one of the back spikes to make the speaker stand vertical. Any slight deviation in your floor being level (or spikes being same height) will be hugely magnified, visually, by the tall slender Sonatina II.BTW, for fun I tried...
Remove spring from RB300 I want to install the espresso counterweight on my RB300, and defeat the built-in spring (if not remove it). I think I need a few minutes on the telephone with someone very familier with this arm. Would any of you volunteer, or, do you know a good...
Personal amp evolution Fisher 400 tube receiver, Amber Black Series 70 (early model), Adcom 545 (inadvertant downgrade - I read too many reviews!), Bryston 2B, Forte 4a, Conrad Johnson 11a, Conrad Johnson Premier 12 monoblocks.. Then, after reading so many great reviews...
Silverline Sonatina MK II:at Resale alot/Any Good? I have very latest Sonatina II. It is not remotely cold sounding. However it's possible that Alan made some design changes during production so you should get serial numbers of the units you are considering an contact him at www.silverlineaudio.com.
Coincident vs Silverline vs Ref 3a Thank you all for your responses. I have just ordered Silverline Sonatina II. Seemed the best given size of my condo living area (not so intimate) and my desire to use low powered amps. Victory and Ref 3a were very close contendors and I may try t...
Tonearms: Graham 2.1 or 2.2 vs Basis Vector Thanks for the update. I have not taken the leap yet....Art
Madrigal Mark Levinson out of business. Based on that Audiorevolution article, it sounds like they are moving the manufacturing, not shutting down the lines. Any dip in resale values of Revel speakers might be temporary. Art
Do all 6550 based tube amps sound the same? The CJ premier twelves have a naturally warmer, more easy going sound than ARC amps and more than most amps actually. My choice would depend on other gear in the system. |
