Cary SLI-80 vs Cary 300SEI Thanks Lacee. I've been meaning to revisit this issue. How is treble detail and bass control? Those are where there WOULD be weaknesses, if any. Thanks,Art
Question about making 2.1 home theatre work My Marantz also seems to reduce the bass to the front pair of speakers when I tell it there is a subwoofer, even though I also tell it the front speakers are "large". I don't have any way to tell what the cutoff is though.
REL Subwoofer Cable Upgrade? "I would recommend trying something solid core as an upgrade to the stock stranded wire supplied from REL."Aha - back to the "coat hanger" conversation?Seriously, I'm tempted to call the Cable Company as a next step - I remember they had a great l...
REL Subwoofer Cable Upgrade? Perhaps shortening the original (35 foot?) cable is the ticket?
My experience with long ICs I bought long IC's from Oritek. It was 4 or 5 meters, I forget. Ori modified the design of the cable, so that it would sound and function the same as the one meter. IMHO, it did. I used it for quite a while on a Cary SLI-80 and was very happy with...
LSA speakers? 1. LSA bought DK, not the other way around.2. I also own LSA 1's, their "bottom of the line" bookshelf speaker, and I think it's wonderful. It has an uncanny life-like sound. Art
Cary amp fuse blowing 1 advice 2 Bay Area fix? Yes I have had to replace a fuse after tubes blow. The fuses are located in the back of the amp near the a/c cord. You unscrew the black cap. Make sure to use the proper fuse! If I recall correctly, it is specified in the manual.Art
Review: Bose 201 Series V A couple of years ago, I visited the home of a friend that I had not seen in quite some time. She had renovated her home and done an amazing job, really jaw dropping. I wish I knew how to do that. It was just incredibly tasteful and beautiful.They...
Cary 303/300 vs. 306/200? Try searching for abecollins (one word although the fellow's name is Abe Collins). My memory is that there were adherents to both but more to the 303/300. However, some people (like Abe) prefered the 308T because of it's pure tube output stage, ov...
The AR turntable I sold my AR ES-1 just a couple of years ago, purchased new in mid-1980's. It definitely has a warm, musical sound, deep but slightly soft bass. Personally I love turntables with suspensions (many don't) for their palpable and musical sound. I'm t...
Cary 303/300 vs. 306/200? At the time that the 303/300 came out, and shortly thereafter, there was a lot of conversation comparing that unit to the older 306/200, since the latter's used price was in the ballpark or slightly less than the formers new price. I think if you ...
Impressed with Tubes I've got a tube integrated (preamp plus amp), tube cd player and tube phone stage. Can't get enough tube :) Seriously, at least to my ear, solid state is just for office and bedroom systems. In my experience, if I had to put tubes in one component...
iTunes How important is checking that error correction box when ripping cds in iTunes? I unchecked it early on because I found that I was getting worse results, but I don't remember the details, sigh... I think it was ripping more slowly and at times giv... |
